Talking Just won an induction kit :)

I was going to build my own kit, but when I saw a K&N induction kit on eBay for not much ££ I thought I'd have a go! I just won THIS

Now I know it's a K&N and its placment is poor, but even if it performs little different to the stock filter, it certianly looks better, and i can use the filter with a custom tube ata later date

Almost new and £21 delivered!

Think it's a good buy , or really is that poor???? I don't have the luxury of all the SPi kits anyway, and i think other kits like the green, and piperX etc, all sit on top of the TB. A bit of ducting from the bumper should help

Re: Just won an induction kit :)

it will run worse than standard because it is a hot air induction kit

theres half a gsr kit in classified for £39, only needs a new filter, you can pic up a twin cone for £15

Re: Just won an induction kit :)

I 've seen the focus kit before, wasn't to sure about it though.

It's only meant as a stop gap before I make my own, then i can hack it up anyways probably, depending on the filter size.

You sure it will run worse than the standard filter??? If so, that sucks!!! I was goinf to give it a cold feed through the bumper inlet, thats already there.

Re: Just won an induction kit :)

hot air rises so it will push all the fed cold air away
will sound good though, so it makes you think your going faster

Re: Just won an induction kit :)

ah well, if i sound faster then all's good

i wonder what the insurance will say when i tell them lol...."yep, I've fitted and induction kit, but my performance has decreased....it makes more noise though"

Maybe I'll get a discount

oh god, you want to see the 'shouting match' a friends partner and his insurance company got into he declared all mods on the car (MR2 GTS) then replaced some them with stock items... and they wanted increased his insurance due to the re-modification of the car.

Re: Just won an induction kit :)

hehe,

Yeah, i seen that before and thought it was a bit overkill

I will get some air up there and hopefully will be ok

as I said its temporary anyway.

Still think the buy was OK anyway, can probably resell for the same amount if need to

I agree it's not ideal. Getting cold air into an engine bay is never a problem, getting it out is (be it cold or hot). But note that this intake is fed from a high pressure area and is something like 3 times the area of the wee tube which comes with the K&N which is itself about 2x the area of the original.

I can certainly feel the difference, and a friendly police man tells me that my Sei has more poke than a 1.4 Ka. But a dyno is the only real judge.

My plans are probably not that different than Kritip's: a longer intake with the filter down somewhere near the gearbox. Where they may differ is that I will build a carbon cone on the end of the inlet tube so that air comes directly from the high pressure area into the filter. Not fully ram effect as I suspect that would play havok with the metering, but damn close.

I'll also look at a bonnet with chimneys to exhaust the hot air from the radiator (as much to cut drag as get rid of the hot air) and the waste air from the filter, etc.
