| mad bad and very very old | Guess what arrived at the workshop today? Sitting minding my own business when I was approached by the assistant workshop manager. 'you know about these funny little Fiats' he started with. 'Go on' says I ' what have you got now?' He replied 'One of my friends has bought a Seicento, the mileage is really low, but hes having problems getting it into gear and the brakes keep failing' 'Which model is it?' I enquired. 'Don't know, but its not got a clutch pedal' 'AAAAAAAAAAArgh, its a Citymatic' said I running in the opposite direction. I then returned, slightly more slowly. This pile of excrement has only got 1 blue key, so the owner is in deep doo doo, not once but twice. Sitting in my shed is a Cinq 899, not been on the road for three years, just sitting there. I know I can use the pedal box and clutch cable, but can I substitute my, non coded, ECU to get round the red key problem? Helping out someone, who will cross my palms with pictures of the Queen. Answers please on a postcard, or on here will do. Ta D

Hi Dave I know that I can convert the clutch to manual operation with the appropriate hardware, I just read some of the earlier posts and there seemed to be some confusion over whether the Citymatic ECU will work with a manual clutch as the APS light would be on all the time, or the car wouldn't start if it didn't see the citymatic ECU. Hence my question about substituting an older, manual ECU to get round the Citymatic question, and also the lack of a red key. The older ECU does not use a chip ring or interface, its simply an engine ECU. I think that the current key should work as it just turns the ignition barrel, the fact that it has a chip in it is neither here nor there, the older ECU won't be looking for one. The customer could then get another key cut and not need to code it from the ,non existant, red key. Cheers D
