Weird Noise In Steering

Hi,
My steering's been making a odd noise for the past month or so, on the day of my M.O.T (sod's luck!!) it started making a weird noise like a creaking kind-of-sound when turning at low speeds e.g parking it up, 3 point turns etc.

I thought if it was something bad the car wouldn't pass it's M.O.T, it did pass so I left it at that and thought it must have been something or nothing.

It's still the same and seems to be getting worse, any ideas of what it could be? and how much parts would be if so?

Thanks,
Si

Re: Weird Noise In Steering

Best bet is to get someone to turn on the spot, get in and under and look for the source, directly on the steering coloumn, or justt steering associated?

Is this a cinq?

Re: Weird Noise In Steering

my car has been doing the smae thing. its like a crunking noise when turning and when just moving at low speeds. i was going to get it checked out but havent got round to it. it been the same for around a month. i wondered if it was to do with my shocks because i have lowered springs and standard shocks might be broken?

Re: Weird Noise In Steering

Could be due to lowering springs and standard shocks.. My 1242 does that too.

On the side that does it, I do know the bottom balljoint is screwed though.

Re: Weird Noise In Steering

Could be the bearing in the top mount seizing up.

Drop the strut off and make sure the top mount spins smoothly.

Cheers
