Accelerator cable please help

Hi,

I would be grateful if someone could help me! Having recently had my car back to full working order the accelerator cable decided to break. I have bough a cable and removed the old one but am having so much difficulty putting the new cable in. The main problem I am having is regarding the grommet which goes under the facia behing the accelerator cable , which I must push through from the engine compartment. I cannot get this in, am not able to exert enough pressure. Can anyone offer any tips? I have losened and moved the water container and the air filter and casing.

Any help is gratefully recieved

Warm up the grommet with a hair drier to soften the "rubber".

A smear of neat washing-up liquid on the grommet edge to give it some slip.

Either, or.
