My sei is really starting to do my head in!! first of all it started mis firing then it seemed to lose aload of power and nw its started conking out on me randomly as im drivin about. I checked the plugs and leads their fine but my brother thought it might be the coilpack or the feul filter wot do you lot think?

If the fuel filter has't been changed recently, then do it, even if its not the problem. Coil packs are easy to check. Keep a spare plug in the car. Should the car stop, disconnect one lead at a time and try the spare spark plug to earth to check whether you are getting a spark.

Cheers

Is the Fuel Injector Light (red 'spray' type icon on dash) coming on during the misfiring?

Si

when the light comes on it usually means that the ECU has detected some fault or other. If you want to speed up the process of finding out the possible reason then get a diagnostic done on it This will give you the fault codes and the potential reason. It can also pick up problems you are unaware of too so its worth the 20 odd quid it costs

Got the same problems ladz, but injection light is still off (only before starting it flashes-this is normal).Sometimes the engine is running very allright, sometimes not - idling, shots in head, shotting to exhaust...Also a very small missing of coolant water, oil looks allright, no water inside..

What could be wrong...

idling, shots in head, shotting to exhaust...

The shots in head sound painful! But I guess you mean it's backfiring -- noise in the exhaust which sounds like a gun going off.

Best guesses (in no particular order) plugs, plug leads, coil pack.
First, test for arcing simply by running the engine somewhere dark and looking. If it arcs, replace the plug leads. Next, try replacing the plugs. Finally get hold of a coil pack to replace one of the coil packs. If that sorts it, fine, if not, replace the other coil pack.

Nobody ever mentions this, but if the exhaust is blowing then it will backfire like an absolute bitch under the bonnet, mine was until I got a new exhaust.

The owner before me gave me receipt from some service and also said me there was engine coil unit changing(due to flashing ignition control light),

reseting the ECU is usefull and could help ???? What's the technique to reset ECU, because I find two alternatives, don't know which one is right..

you're genius(y)

it's really visible sparkling in dark,(somewhere in area of top of sparks, don't see it exactly) what will be wrong?? plug leads?? could you tell me what exactly it means, and what exactly I must ask for at partsshop??

Thanks million. If it helps, you've got a beer here :worship:

If its arcing in the area of the spark plugs you need a set of ignition leads.

..and what's the difference between "ignition" and "plug" leads ??? is it the same???

btw. do you think it will finally solve the problem?? new leads(or how do you call cables with endings between coil and spark plug) and new spark plugs ?? ignition coil unit is already changed..

Thanks.. How much it will cost approx. ????

Ignition and plug leads are one and the same.

Without seeing your car its impossible to tell, but you should not be able to see sparks when the engine is running. The sparks should be inside the engine.

As they can't be two places at the same time its fair to say that if they are outside then they ain't happening on the inside which is why you have a missfire.

YeYe, and what about resetting ECU ??? If i disconnect battery for one all day, is it enough??? Then I need to start engine and let it run without any gas till fan starts???(this is how I red it in some topic)..

Oh f**k ladz.. new sparks,(old one on second cylinder was oily and dirty) new leads. Start engine till fan starts (due to battery out for 2 days), running allright, but when temp. reaches around 90 degrees, engine won't run.. Stepping on gas and nothing, just won't go, only "brabling" on neutral.. Maybe it will improve after some time(due to ECU learning??)??? And then, let the engine cool, again gas, 1,2,3, and it's running perfect - no misfiring, quickly, with good sound.. What do you think?? Just hold for few miles to "get in" for ECU, or ther's some any more mistake??

Thanks ladz. Due to overheating, coolant is allright, at 90degrees hot, but not boiling..Could be engine head wrong?? Iam unhappy.. (n)

Hm, but injection light is not blinking - looks like that's not problem with some "managing" electronic unit - previous owner said me that in service they changed coil unit due to flashing ign. control light.. now the ignition light is off and engin won't run.. what about checking the MAP sensor ??
