Wonder if anybody can point me in the right direction. The fuse for the radiator fan keeps blowing (started this moring)

Car getting really hot no fan, check fuse (blown) fit new fuse car ok for 1/2 hour (lots of traffic fan on all the time) then fan stops car gets hot fuse blow replace ok again, just as I get to work (again fan on all the time due to traffic) fab stops fuse blown.

It could be that your fan is on its way out, tight bearings causing it to work harder to turn hence fuses blowing, or even some thing wrapped around the fan can have same effect, when car is cool have a good check of the fan and see if it turns freely, it should spin no problem by hand.

Had a look yesterday and yes the fan is fcuk quite stiff to move so thanks for the help

I got a plastic bag stuck in mine and it kept popping fuses

£15 quid later with a 2nd hand fan all is fine

Please be aware that the radiator fan fuse is the same one for the heater motor as well.
I have a similar problem and cant figure it out.
Number 24 fuse keeps blowing as soon as i turn the ignition on if engine hot or cold,removed connector from radiator fan fuse doesnt blow and heater works!!!tested radiator fan off vehicle all OK,then reversed out of drive with heater fan on and radiator disconnected and fuse blew.??? mmmmmmmmmmm.
any ideas as this is doin my ed in:bang::bang:, oh ps im a panel beater etc!!
Is there any common faults relating to this i,e wiring shorts etc were going through bulkhead ,let me know please thx,
Driving with no radiator fan connected at moment which is ok as still cold, but need help fast do not want to do any engine damage,,.

What car have you got?

I am certain that on both electrical systems the heater fan and engine fans are fused seperately.

Edit: SPi only has 15 fuses, number 3 is engine fan 25Amps, number 15 is cooling fan 15Amps standard, 25Amps with air con.

Further Edit: MPi engine fan fuse is a maxi fuse in a four fuse container behind the battery.

Doubt it. Yours is MPi, fuse is behind the battery.

nope fuse in under dash drivers side,replaced it often enought trust me its there..will look in morning though. but it is under dash hasthe fan symbol on it ,and if it is behind the battery , that means you have to remove the battery to fit a fuse ?

yup i have to agree with Rally cinq it is on the maxi fuse in fact its maxi fuse C

well what is number 24 under the dash for then ,if you dont mind dont have the handbook.! and any idea why this one doesnt blow when i disconnect the radiator fan wire, confusing me >

24 is passanger compartment fan and cigar lighter.. completely unrelated to the radiator fan

well thats the one that keeps blowing,but like i said when i disconnect the radiator fan electrically the fuse doesnt blow,number 24 that is,i dont know time for bed head is fubard now lol thx will have a look with fresh head tomorrow

dont worry we all have 5 minutes of crazy sometimes so basically the maxi fuse in the engine bay runs the engine fan.. whilst fuse 24 runs the heater blowers. e.g the little fan behind the dashboard.. the two are completely different systems.. therefore have two seperate fuses

You haven't got a bit of metal in the fag lighter have you?

Possibly something thats moving and shorting when you move the car.

Going back to post 1 it's the engine cooling fan causing overheating problems. Check the fan like someone said in post 2 it should run freely. Have you seen it running lately ??

Remember that post#2 was 5 years ago!

But it still means that if the OP is blowing the fuse in the car its nothing to do with the cooling fan.

As its linked to the fag lighter my guess is that there is a fault within the fag lighter or a previous owner has tapped into the live feed of the fag lighter for some accessory, since removed leaving a live wire exposed.

Well you never guess what ???
OMFG decided this morning to remove fag lighter put new fuse in and everything works no p[roblem,just to make sure i put fag lighter back in , and sure enough the fuse blew .
So decided leave fag lighter out .aqs i lean over to passenger side to collect my tool,s i glimpsed into the fag lighter socket, well bugger me a 2p coin,.
Took it out put fag lighter back in all is fine lol,been at this a week now,was on my back this morning putting rad fan back on at 6;30 b4 work.
ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh stress
