(G) sump plug seals

started doing the oil change today, got the car jacked up then realised that universal sump plug tool isnt actually universal! so didnt get it done!

anyway, while trying to work out what size allen key to fit the plug i was reading the haynes and it said to replace the seal too as theyre prone to leaking when refitted. is this really important or just advisary? neither motorworld or halfrauds stock them so will have to do the hour long round trip to a fiat garage if i need one!

There isnt a seal on the sump, its a tapered plug, the haynes is also known as the bumper book of lies Sump plug is a 12mm allen key.

Yeah, I think half the Haynes applies to others cars too!

Halfords sell a nice 3/8 drive 12mm allen socket to go on a ratchet.

ah ok! didnt realise! i picked up a sump key while at halfords so that sorted!

Or else a plain old 12mm allen key from your friendly local engineers merchant. Use a peice of bar over the end to give more leverage for slackening, use without the bar for tightening.
