Got the springs

before all the snow hit today, i went up to fast fiats offices with a mate to pick up my new "PI 40mm lowering springs" at a cost of £75.00.

me and a few friends (friends meaning a mates, mates, mate with spring clamps!) will be fitting them friday, just thought i'd ask you AMAZING LOT if there is anything i should know before fitting them, other then slow down for the speed bumps things like time it takes and the Fiat central equivalent of the Haynes Spanner rating,

dads happy im getting them just for that reason "i need to slow down"
this comes from a 45yr old man (mental age of a 17yr old) with a 2.0 20v turbo coupe by the way.

whos is the little red fiat?

Well, It cant be taking as long as my clutch is....If its a 4 spanner, give it ages (10 hrs at least)...

Id say put a full day behind it, if yure inexperienced or have never done anything like that... Because it took a me and two mates 4 days to replace a track rod end as we stripped the nut!!

It's not too hard, just go careful, easy and even with the spring compressor. What you have to look out for is making sure there's enough travel on the spring compressor to get it off the 'relaxed' spring, as they are quite a bit longer when not in the strut. Allow 3 to 4 hours to do all 4 if you haven't done them before. Back ones are a 20 min job, undo the botom bolt on the shocker, jack the car up so the wheel hangs down a long way, push it down a bit further by hand and just pull the spring out. When the spring's out, give the arm a good rive about especially on the outer bush to check for movement and wear, there should be no play in it.

Good luck.

Pete.

My hubby did mine, he lowered it 40mm, fitted both rear trailing arms, rear brake shoes and a twin exhaust in 10 hrs, with help from our 10yr old.

As for "slowing down" you find it'll hold the road better so you find yourself driving faster :D
* just getting black looks from hubby* :D

I'd def say slow down for speed bumps and try and avoid potholes, even small ones cos i find they make the cd skip [V]

I was jsut wondering, is it all fine to simply apply lowering springs and use them with the origional Fiat dampers?? I have a Cinq sporting but i don't know whether to get the full susp kit or just the springs.
also how low should i go with the possiblity of 14's in the near future??
:Dthanks people

GoGoCinquecento!

Standard shocks won't make the ride too hard, which can be a problem with some kits. I wouldn't reccommend going lower than 40mm as it causes bother, trust me.

Fixit is right.......I almost ripped my sump off the other day!

Unfortunately, these cars dont have much clearance when lowered!

There on BUT...
Theres always a "BUT" with fiats.
ive got to get new front shocks, after taking them out found that you can compress them just by looking at them! (pushing down lightly)
plus the camber on the front is slightly to much toe out* (*i think thats the right 1) for my liking.
dont mind the back looking like it, but the front will wear to quickly.
even though the shocks are rubbish the handling is so much better.

i took just under 7 hours to complete, this included:
tea breaks * 6
food breaks * 3
TV breaks * 2
misc. breaks * 2
#Wiring the power cable from the engine bay to the boot
#fixing front comp speakers.

I'll take some pic's ASAP and post them on my site.

whos is the little red fiat?
