Re: A day of highs and lows

back to topic

he'll have lost his license in a couple of months, but he'll blame that on the tail-wind/ policeman/ speedo not reading right... and say he was well within his limits (whilst sliding sideways through a speed camera at 60 in a 30 limit)

oh yeah, because he's clever...

and chaos, what 6x9s would you reccommend from that pile?

Re: A day of highs and lows

Hmmm, nearly all car accidents result in the driver driving too fast for the conditions, again here the theory is demonstrated.

Cinq's can do 45mpg+ if driven carefully, yeah it ain't very exciting but it's cheap, a decent tyre and rim can set you back £75 so I would say it is all the rim bashing that is costing you, luckily Ebay is usually awash with std rims.

Need to calm down buddy as I see a scott108c on the horizon.

Liam

Re: A day of highs and lows

15 years ago I passed my test, that may seem like a long time ago to you. I passed first time, and was overconfident. I drove with too much acceleration but I also had a healthy fear for hurting and killing someone, hence I never had an accident. Bar once.

Someone ran into the back of me in my brand new car. Perhaps dazzled by the paintwork?

I learned from my mistakes early on, when I was faced with my first bill for driving a 1 litre Uno too quickly on country roads and I literally wore the tyres down within 10,000 miles of driving and heavy braking. Then other bits started to go wrong related to wear. Well, you get the picture.

But it seems to me that you have had more opportunities to learn than I have so far, and maybe even have less money than I had at the time ( the car was off the road for a month until I could afford new - get this - remoulded tyres - dad wouldn't let me drive on illegal tyres and good for him ). Doesn't even the economic argument get to you? If you get egged on by your mates to drive like a fool just say "can't afford to", or "you going to pay for my tracking, tyres and petrol then?". There is nothing like pointing out a financial situation to embarass a brit into shutting up.

Not only does aggressive driving risk you, others and the car but it definately has an impact on the lightness of your wallet.

Oh and the only people who think that driving constantly at, and over the limits of your car is "cool" are knobheads. The rest of us worry about grieving mothers, innocent pedestrians and the odd crushed dog and cat.

A car driving license isn't like a TV license, it isn't a license to entertain yourself on public roads. Sure, driving doesn't have to be boring, but stop playing with everyones lives and your own and cool it a bit. And admit when its your fault as the driver.

Drive quickly on safe roads, and carefully on built up or risky roads and you will end up enjoying your car for a lot longer. It also might save your life.

That is why every tyre fitters or garage by law has to be built at least half a mile from any corners or slight bend in the road. There would be chaos and carnage on the roads if everyone was let loose on the roads with dangerous 'slippery' tyres.

Seriously, calm down mate, take it easy, and as you can see by the other posts, no one is impressed by these stories, so keep them to yourself (not meant to sound rude, it just saves people like me having a dig at you).

And it may be worth ringing up your local police station and asking about driver training, you will be suprised how many offer FREE training including skid pan lessons. There is usually an age or experience limit, ie younger people or newly passed. This is something i personally think should be handed out free by the government. Every child now gets nursey vouchers, over 65's get pensions, all of us in between should get vouchers, under 20's could get skid pan training, 20-30's get advanced driver training or track day vouchers. Any party offering that would get the votes.

Re: A day of highs and lows

Well Im not trying to impress people am I, making a mess of your rims and tracking isn't impressive. As for the economy argument, even when driving economicaly I only seem to be getting about 25mpg. I'll look into skid pan days chaos and thank you project-cinqy for at least being understanding.

And i didn't say to them some excuse, I just purely said I went too fast and the car didn't make the turn, not only to you have to learn from your mistakes, you have to learn to admit your mistakes, something I hadn't done until now.
