Supersprint Decat

I, thinking of getting rid of the cat for 364 days of the year and was wondering if anyone has used the supersprint decat and centre section pipe

I have a supersprint manifold currently linked up to the cat and I want to know if it is just as easy as swaping out the cat and centre section and fitting in the supersprint. Does it mate straight onto the SS manifold?
Knowing the pratting around it took to mate the manifold to the Cat call me a sceptic but I can't beleive its that easy!

Re: Supersprint Decat

i have a superspint back box and should be getting a supersprint manifold in the next few days. what i plan to do, take it to powerflow and get them to make me a custom centre section / decat with a removeable cat section. then cut up my old downpipe and add flanges to the cat so it can be swapped in and out without needing to change (and store for most of the year) the whole downpipe. I can see the benefit of using a SS manifold and a SS backbox, but the centre section is just a bit of pipe - as long as the bore matches, it can't go wrong.

Good idea mate can you let me know how much it costs you in the end my cinq budget is nearly all spent now (especily since I've just fitted an oil cooler) so if it works out reasonabley cheaply this might be the way I go too

Re: Supersprint Decat

i was quoted around £130 by poweflow in stafford which is imo far too much for a bit of pipe. Getting another quote off the place where gex used to work back home, and will let you know how much.

Alex, let us know what they want to do it

Ow thats expensive the supersprint pipe is £56 (which I thought expensive)so then add to that six bits if string to hang it from the garage roof for 364days and half a day at MOT time to change them around its looking a bargain

Alex are you going for a SS one I hear that they can sound a bit tinny if you don't have at least a small resonator box fitted

Re: Supersprint Decat

mines got a custom cat back exhaust in stainless with the flexi bit, and because of the turbo has a std downpipe but modded to direct it in right direction so when i get mine done it wont be the rest of the centre section will literally just be cut the cat, flange the cat and flange a bit of straight pipe, then have them to drop in/out

If you pay a bit more you can get a sports cat fitted.

Re: Supersprint Decat

whats your opinion on sports cats oldschool? especially on a turbo car? would you say the turbo engine would see more gains from a full decat?

Re: Supersprint Decat

The difference would be marginal. Of course, this requires that the sports cat is fitted properly.

If you can avoid to have a cat altogether then obviously you go for this option. This option is legal for some of the cars up to July 1995, which is known already.

But on some cars it is not advisable. This is on most of the MPI models, where 2 lambda sensors (or more) are involved. Rather than going for a lambda replacement that tricks the ECU I personally would go for the sports cat. Cost are more or less the same. if the sports cat is not cheaper. But more importantly the ECU is not tricked, which is always some sort of 'crutches' to make it run. And it is something that can go wrong, creating a lot of headache.

Also you will never have the problem to be pulled over by VOSA to see whehther you comply with the regulations.

Integrating the cat in a pipe reduces the requirement for at least on flange (swapping the de-cat pipe with cat), which makes the often poor transition less likely when the pipe is pushed into the exhaust pipe, which reduces mismatch losses.

I am absolutely no fan of the cat, but in this instance it is the better solution technically and practically than going on to the swapping business.
