| Seicento Gear Knob Problems Hi people, I bought a new lift up gear knob from Halfords but am having major problems fitting it as I cannot remove the current knob from the gear stick :s The rubber knob on there just does not seem to come off - I am considering cutting it away to get it off, but if that goes wrong then I'll be stuck. Its seems that once the rubber is off it should be OK, but first I need to know if its OK to remove the rubber knob - Seicento's just aren't meant for modification!!! Ive seen the other posts here about similar problems, but they seem to focus on older model Cing's - mines 53 plate Seicento which is coming up to its third year in the Summer. *** I did post this in the styling section but there seems to be no-one viewing it :S, so I apologise for the double post *** So, can anyone help me, advise me or give me any useful information on my problem. Thanks alot in advance

| RIP L181 VBB | Re: Seicento Gear Knob Problems you do need to cut it off to remove it. It is by far the easiest way Here is a simple how to guide for your benefit http://www.fiatforum.com/cinquecento-seicento/57205-how-fit-omp-adapter-gearknob.html Hope you have the OMP adaptor as well, if not you will need to purcahse this as well. Welcome to the forum please dont post duplicate threads all over the place though, it is the weekend so the forum is a lot quieter, your question will have got answered at some point all you need is patience Happy gear knob replacement

| mad bad and very very old | Re: Seicento Gear Knob Problems I think most people access the forum while at work, saves doing any work I suppose. Being cento owners they then spend all the weekend under the car fixing it, so its a bit quieter on here. Me, I am working. Cheers D

*note to self: reading the first post in a thread usually helps* in that case, im pretty sure u just hack the original gear knob off and then screw the new one down onto the shaft instead! but dont quote me on that.

| Re: Seicento Gear Knob Problems Put the gear in 4th and pull like there's no tommorow... Or cut the original in two, in a vertical axis.

| Re: Seicento Gear Knob Problems Hey guys, thanks so much for all the feedback, its much appreciated ... anyways, for whoever mentioned it, Ive got a Sei Active 2003 model ... and ive tried turning the gear knob like theres no tomorrow and now i have the brightest red skin you could imagine lol, think its gonna have to be the cutting option ... i just dont wanna cut my gear knob and end up with no knob on there - i can just imagine me ending up with just a big pointy piece of metal as a gear stick lol. so, can you clarify 100% thats its ok to cut the leather off? thanks guys! ill let you know how i get off so we can use it for future referencing

| custodian of imola blue | Re: Seicento Gear Knob Problems You have to cut the gearnob off (but if it's got a leather cover, you may as well cut the stitching first and remove that intact, after all, something died to make it). Use something like a junior hacksaw to put a cut along the top, back to front. Follow that down the sides, then use an old screwdriver to prize the two parts apart. You'll soon see why it doesn't unscrew! Strangely (or maybe not) I have a Sporting gearbox and cables mated to a S gearlever and control box with a plain Momo big ball bearing type knob, so it may be that the lift up for reverse mechanism can be disconnected or forgotten about.........

| Re: Seicento Gear Knob Problems i meant rubber not leather sorry lol. anyways trying to twist it definately doesnt work, unless im really that weak! lol. if i do cut this rubber knob off now, my gears will still work and stuff now wont they. i had such a bad time fitting my sub/amp all-in-one in that i dont want to have more headwork with this gear knob fiasco. thanks
