I keep gettin this high pitched squeelin noise from my engine exactly like a fan belt slippin, but when this noise is happenin, my engine lacks power and when the noise stops power returns, anyone have any ideas.

if you get any closer you will need a condom.

The alternator belt is the fan belt isn't it?

I had the same problem although I didn't loose power. Try tightening the belt but it may need replacing (they're less than £5). I tightened my belt and it was cured for about 5 days, I replace it last night but haven't had chance to test it yet.

btw it's a nightmare trying to tighten/replace it. You can't get any tools in there, it may be easier to take the wheel and plastic bits by the wheel off to get to it. I gave up on it and my dad said he'd do it quickly. It took us 2 hrs [:0]. He had given me the wrong tools though :D, so I didn't have much hope anyway. The wires etc. make it almost impossible to move the wrench.

Good luck and let me know how it goes.

Aye...

No excuse for carrying a spare pair of silk stockings now.:(;)

Marea 2.0 20v
FIATcentral window sticker
Blue gaiters, Blue sidelights, Blue interior lights, Blue lacquer on engine, feeling blue ;)
Ecotek fitted, removed and waiting for warm weather
So much to do, so little time.... and Totally Skint!! :(

I get the same noise, happens occasionally, but only when its warm. I know this doesn't help in any way, but i just floor it in whatever gear i'm in until it shuts up. Makes me feel better though :)

Another day...another problem...

When damp, the belt on mine squeeks, but i don't care about that, its the other high pitched constant squeeling that rises with the revs that annoys me. Heard alot about alernator problems, so its that i will probably change first in order to kill it.

How much you rekon i could pick up a uprated alternator for? (more than the 65A output of the standard one) i'd want closer to 80-85A if possible.

I believe a normal one is about £110, just off the top of my head. It's quite a bit if it's just the belt that's gone, the belt's less than a fiver, give that a try first. It seems to have cured my squeelin noise.
