hi , i'm looking for some help. i fitted new brake shoes to my wifes car today , is a p reg 850cc, drivers side went on after a long battle but left rear went on very tight and wheel does not turn causing the car to stall . i loosened off cable still has a little more to go, and i freed up the metal brackets which the cable is connected to at wheel hub. the car has the two cable system which i think goes around the wheel on h/brake.
what is my best way of sorting this .

Are you sure the adjusters are set at the right place. These are friction type that sit on the pin on the back plate. You can usually push them in a bit using two screwdrivers, one either side.

Don't be tempted to slacken them off too much or the handbrake won't work.

Cheers

hi D, thanks for your reply , i feel the problem is the handbrake adjustment, i have played around with adjusters but can't seem to get the shoes to go smaller
there is a little bit of adjustment on cable , do i have to go all the way in on that and try again?

Yup, Take the cable adjustment as slack as it will go. Make sure the shoes are in a position that just allows the drum to go on. If you are reusing drums, grind off the inner lip, if any. Once the drums are all assembled, then adjust the cable to suit.

Cheers
