Hi guys,
I've got a serious fuel tank leak problem! If I fill up with more than half a tank it just leaks out again.... great!
So I called fiat customer services and my local dealer both did recall check and both said it only applies to pre-99 Sei's. Fantastic!
What i don't get is, its obviously the same problem as with the pre-99 Seis so why should I pay the quoted £250 to get it fixed!?

Anyone else had this prob on the newer Sei's?
Any ideas what i should do?

Thanks a lot,

hi, does this problem happen to all sei's eventually? and y?

No this only applies to SPI seis as stated pre 99 however owners with older SPI seis up to 01 have managed to get a free fuel tank if the problem occurs.

If you get an MPI sei 01-04 this fuel tank recall will not count as the tanks were improved

The reason the recall occured was because the tanks were metal and rusted. It was a design fault

The annoying thing is the tanks obviously haven't been improved that much as mine is leaking just the same... So you don't think I have any grounds for appeal on a free replacement?

This does not happen on newer seis im afraid

A 2001 sei is an MPI seicento whereas pre 99 seicentos up to 2001 are SPI seicentos.

As in the statement above older seis had metal fuel tanks which corroded pretty bad, an original design fault. New tanks are plastic i believe (correct if wrong) and in theory there have been no problems.

It sounds unfortuneatly you have a fuel leak and you will have to pay the qoute given as there is nothing you can do. If it is a fiat qoute it might be cheaper to havethe work done elsewhere. Fuel tanks for seicentos also pop up on ebay from time to time :)

Hope this helps but unfortuneatly you wont be able to get the work done for free as it is not a problem on newer seis

Unfortuneatly not.

Bein a 2001 X reg/Y-reg car you will not have any grounds for appeal as it is pre 99 cars

I have not heard many cases of MPI seis having fuel tank leaks im afraid if i am honest and i would say that fiat have actually corrected the original fault in my opinion and unfortuneatly you have been unlucky

Its the FF-im sure someone will come along very soon and let ya know :D

what do you reckon from the ebay picture above????? I would say plastic or a similar compound

I am sure that both tanks are metal but the affected tanks had imperfect welds around the seam which joins the two halfs. This is where the tanks leak.

I have actually HAD MY FUEL TANK REPLACED and I drive a 2001 SEICENTO.
The tank is plastic of some sort. DO NOT take that quote! You can get it done much cheaper. I got mine done including labour and parts for diagnosis and fitting for £185 inc vat. This also included a new track rod end and 4 wheel tracking whilst it was in.

Mambo, if you fancy a day out on the other side of the Pennines. Take it to Steve Byram's in the centre of Huddersfield. They are professional, and don't charge your arse off. They have a really good rep and are very popular with Centos. If you want the number, PM me.

no well done applesei , did the cinq recall tanks get replaced with plastic ones, or did they get replaced with the ones that they put on the spi sei's :chin:
