Having read all the posts regarding this problem and have been through all the checks. The gears have stopped going into 5th. The cables are all secure.

I disconnected cable 4b and it went into 5th ,no problem. It seems that when cable 4b is pushed forward by moving the gearstick to the right, with cable 4b connected, 5th will not engage.

Any ideas welcome

It is an 899and I believe all 899 Seicentos have wet boxes.

I cannot see anything under the gear lever and I do not think there is anything there otherwise I don't think it would go into 5th when the cable 4b is disconnected. I think it maybe something to do with the cable

It seems a problem with the cable not wanting to move forward.

OK, this is still ongoing.

First - The gear box oil is full

On the gearstick there are 2 cables -

The r/h one is the sideways movement which has 3 positions
The l/h one is the gear selector

When sideways selector is in position 1 gear selects 1st/3rd
When sideways selector is in position 2 gear selects 2nd/4th
When sideways selector is in position 3 rear selects Rev/5th

On the gearbox the gear selector is
Far Left: Reverse
1 step right: 2nd/4th
2 steps right: 1st/3rd
Far Right: 5th

No problem with any of the gears except 5th, which means that the sideways selector is fine or it would not go into Reverse.

It seems as though the gear selector cable is not pushing the gear selector far enough, if I push had I can hear the gears grinding trying to get into 5th.

I cannot find a way of lengthening the cable to push the selector into 5th.

Any ideas?

The plastic gear selector box broke also the gearbox mount and after I replaced them the problem started
