Ok, so owning a Fiat Seicento that was made in 1998 is bound to raise some issues as it gets older. Mine has been stood for quite a while and rust has set in badly in a few places (i.e. crumbled away after poking with a screwdriver).
It has gone on the rear inner sil, right at the end where it meets the front of the rear wheel arch, on both passenger and drivers side and where the boot floor meets the drivers side rear arch (pics attached). I was just wondering if anyone had had these areas welded before and a rough idea of price? I'm loathed to scrap the car as 95% of the car is good to reasonable rust wise. Certainly treatable to stretch the cars life expectancy for a few more years. Or am I better off finding a not so holey car and transferring the parts? It's an Abarth 1.1 with usual 866, McCritch, 40mm TB, uprated suspension, Punto solid front discs/calipers etc
Cheers for any advice,
Pat

Hey pat. I think quite a few of these cars have this issue.

You could hunt for one without and treat the areas with something like dinitrol or have your car repaired.

There are seicento Schumachers out there for low money which will probably be desirable one day...

If you have to pay someone to do the work it will likely cost as much as the car is worth though as welding is not cheap.

If you know someone our can diy then it's a more sensible proposition.

a few members on here have had these issues fixed.

For me out would come down to the amount of time I had invested in the car improving and servicing it.

I got jacking pints and rear corners weld up, looks like a factory job, for under 250. I know the exact place your on about and mine was starting there. I can't imagine a decent garage with a good welder would charger a massive amount. These cars need to be kept on the road as over in Ireland... There is simply none for sale.
Whatever fits financially really.
Good luck ?

Thanks for the replies/advice :)

After a little bit of asking around it looks like it would be between £200-£300 from any decent garage. Bit of a relief really as I don't mind paying that much to keep it on the road for several more years. It's worth saving as the rest isn't bad at all, and after a decent wire brush and waxoil, should last a good while. I've spent a fair bit on standard and non-standard parts for it, so I am kind of tied to the investment :D

Ok thanks. I was planning on trying to get something inside the sills. Will have google for dinitrol (y):)
