Hi everyone

Desperate help needed!!!

My other half just bought a 2002 Sei Schumacher

Today I was driving it at half way around a roundabout it died

I had a look and the alternator belt had snapped and shredded!!

The car has no aircon and it is just attached via the alternator and crank pulley

Now, when you turn it over it is turning a bit then going quite high pitched and not sounding right at all. It is not firing at all

The cam belt is not snapped and the engine is turning seemingly okay on the key

The crank sensor appears intact

I am quite stumped

Can anyone help? Or heard of anything similar?

Thanks in advance :)

I haven't touched anything. Its currently sitting at home (AA recovery) with no belt on. It would still start without the belt wouldn't it?

There are a number of possible issues in order of probability:
1. Alternator belt got caught in timing belt causing it to skip a tooth or two
2. Battery is too weak to start car
3. Belt caught on a sesor or wire as it came of and broke it
4. Alternator failed and damaged electrics.

For 1 you need to check the timing, 2 try a jump start, 3 inspect engine bay, 4 Rule out 1,2&3 first.

Thanks everyone. It looks like the belt shredded and went in the timing case as a couple of you mentioned ?

Thank you for your help ? much appreciated

Hi,
Don't just re-time the engine, change the belt. Consider changing tensioner and water pump too if not done recently.
