Hi everyone,

I've got an X reg Seicento sporting that has an intermittent power steering fault, it works sometimes and sometimes it doesn't. I don't really know much about seicentos as I'm a punto man, all I know is it is electric and it's broken [emoji23] any ideas what it could be?

Battery reading fine, alternator charging around 14v. I'm stuck and need to get rid of it as it's been sat in my works yard for a couple of months now.

Thanks in advance

Ben

well never actually messed with the sei PAS, generally speaking knowing fiats its either gonna be the torque sensor - easiest thing to do there is rip the whole PAS unit from a car in scrappies.

But it could just be due to a weak battery or dirty battery lead or poor earth. Electric PAS draws some mega current, particularly at full lock so check that before you do anything else ;)

Sorry only just seen these replies. Cheers guys, I will try changing the battery, I work in a garage so if it's not that then I don't waste any money aha. If it's not that then scrappy it is [emoji106]

in all seriousness, if its not the battery its no big job to just take the whole PAS assembly and ecu out and swap it for another. Having faffed about changing torque sensor before (on a punto) I doubt i'd bother again and just grab the whole lot from a scrappies and swap it over. Prob cost about the same too, iirc torque sensors are about £40-45 and i think most scrappies would sell the whole lot for £25-30

Before You swap the battery i suggest you read the battery voltage whilst turning the steering all the way to full lock and seeing if the voltage drops much, PAS motors draw huge currents particularly at full lock so you may well see a significant voltage drop across the battery.
