So the not so unusual happened my dad last night on his way home, snap! I've changed it before and I'm not scared of it but, I thought has anyone converted them to the seicento on as I've never heard of a sei cable snapping. Would be interesting to see.
Has anyone done this?

The clutch will be on its last legs putting excessive stress on the cable and plastic quadrant

ive never broken a cable in 7 1/2 years of having a cinq and thats about 2 years now on a paddle clutch but still the same cable

Yes, as Whitz says if the clutch is remotely heavy then it's probably on the way out and that's what kills the cable. A new clutch will feel like there's no pressure under the pedal at all - even lighter than the throttle pedal. It may be worth swapping the clutch if you can afford it.. it'll make a night and day difference.

as above. i got throught 2 cables in 6 months. finally gave in and changed the clutch and no issues since.

The cable on mine snapped on the first time I drove it after buying it, 8 months later it snapped again today :D so you saying that if the clutch pedal is heavy it means that the clutch is on its way ? because mine is quite heavy

Hi.
I snapped the end of the cable and the quadrant on my Seicento. I was goi g to buy a standard replacement but Ricambio in Wallington (Surrey) told me about their own version, it changes the hook end for a ring with ashouldered bolt that goes through he standard quadrant. No problems since and only a few quid more expensive than the standard although getting through to Ricambio on the phone was a bit of a challenge!

As said above, cable snap is usually a symptom of a clutch that needs replacing. The job on a Sei is difficult due to the dash shape. Lots of grovelling under the dash, and quite a lot of swearing is absolutely necessary.

I bought a new Sei in 2000. A week before the year warranty ran out the cable snapped. AA recovered it to the Fiat dealer, who diagnosed a faulty clutch. Once clutch replaced, action was so much better than it had ever been, and remained so for the remaining 18 months I had it. (30 months, 85,000 miles - poor thing. Still miss it.) This was a 'Suite'. 1100cc, aircon. Wonderful.

I bought one of those modified cables once and it broke after a few weeks. The clutch was worn out but i managed to keep it going until the release bearing disintegrated!

yep agree with all the above, the fancy 'stronger' cables will still snap if the clutch is on way out. Its the not at all a poor design or anything, in like 7 cento's and who knows how many miles I only ever broke one cable - the cable is plenty strong enough if its working properly. Same would happen in any car with cable clutch, just not that many cars you come across will have one.

For all RHD versions of the Cinq.......I recommend removing the black metal cover in the front passenger foot well.there is the start of the cable angled in the right direction for gravity to take the lubricate.......
Wilkinson have a nice 400ml spray can of oil with Teflon with the usual red plastic pipe that will "wick" nicely down the cable..... Gotta be worth a try....
My daughter had an early Sei (she learned to drive on that car).......clutch cable was fine, but I did have a friend a couple of years back,....her cable broke on her Sei ........
I read somewhere that the RHD conversion for clutch operation could have been done better?

i agree the metal plate in the passengers side remove that, or even chuck it away, lol the one thing that people dont do and thats after replacing the clutch cable you should also replace the connecting plate "white plastic bit" as well, my old car was always snapping cables, even replacing the clutch too, its only when i got pissed off with it (3rd clutch cable later) is when i stripped out the dash and found white flake of plastic, thats when i found out that all my problems turned out to be a £6 plastic plate, :bang:
