Rebuilt the rear brakes after I got my beam blasted, new everything, breaks perfect now, new handbrake cable too, but when I go above 20 I hear a ticking as I go along which only gets quicker as I drive up the Rev range!
I cannot make out what it is
I only discoved now too that it needs a rear wheel bearing on the side the ticking is coming from
Any insight to this guy's?

hi,when you rebuilt the brakes at the back, did you make sure you put the springs that link the shoes back in the right places? as in the bottom spring needs to be behind the little metal plate that is held on by 2 rivets.

the sound you maybe hearing is the shoes move out of position and are hitting the ribbed sections of the rear drum.

if you have the springs in the right position, the spring tension holds the shoes in and on there mounting pins,so they dont push out and rub the drum.

the reason i know this is i got a car there with recent rear shoes and had same noise,1 side had been done right, the other had the bottom spring on the wrong side of the metal tounge thats held on with rivits.

you will see it when you remove drum, spring goes around the back.

its hard to describe in words, but i hope ive told it well:)

The bracket that the handbrake cable sits in on the swinging arm can be twisted slightly to allow the cable to clear the tyre.
I used an adjustable spanner opened just enough to slide onto the bracket to give it a tweak, it doesn't need much to make it clear the tyre

would a handbrake slightly rubbing off the tyre give of a 'ticking' noise.

by all means check handbrake cable, but also check out what ive mentioned to..

Depends if its catching on a wheel balance weight. Cable only has to get moved a small amount.

The cable catching on the tyre is the easiest to check otherwise it's a strip down as you have suggested Jay

ah i didnt know that the handbrake cable could run so close to the wheel rim,i had a look at my cars and there all a good 2inch away from the wheel/tyre.

keep us posted of your findings.

intresting stuff:)

So I figured out the ticking, was a wheel weight on the FRONT alloy hitting the the shocks?
My view on it is that the slight added camber with the lowering springs, and the non oem shocks resulted in the ticking, but my handbrake is sticking and I can't figure out why.
The lever is greased and free, new handbrake cable, new everything!
She's on the stick sporting alloys with proper bolts so that's not a problem

Thanks again guys for the help
