Hi
I'm looking for advice for a young lady with her car
Basically she bought a sporting and it boiled dry and to cut a long story short it turns out the seller had put a 899 engine in before selling
My question is would the 1.1 ECU run the 899 engine or would it have had to be swapped
We are looking at options to get the young lady back on the road and preferably with the correct 1.1 engine fitted

Unfortunately the seller was dodgy and the poor lass only had the car on the road for one day

Any advice welcome

Are you sure its the 899 ECU in there?

Either way unless you are able to do an engine swap yourself easily, its probably easier to just weigh the boiled car in at the scrappy and find another one.

Uff, never got so confused with just one post:

The title asks if the 899 ECU can run 1.1 engine.

The post asks if the 1.1 ECU can run 899 engine.

Head explodes. Was the ECU swapped by the seller or the entire engine?

Sorry for the confusion boys I hadn't realised what I had written

The car has a 899 engine fitted but I don't know if they swapped the ECU at the same time is there anyway of telling which ECU belongs to which engine

The young lady says the car is in otherwise great condition and I have suggested buying another car but you know what it's like with your first car

Unfortunately she lives miles away from me so no chance of having a look myself

The young lady in question said she had bought a sporting and it had boiled ,the mechanic who she was dealing with told her she needed a new engine but couldn't find one because it was a timing chain engine
This is the point I got involved and said the Sporting was fitted with the Fire engine and should have a timing belt

I will see if she will give me the registration number and check what the car actually is

I hadn't thought about the fact it could be rebadged as a sporting which actually would make more sense than the Engine being swapped

Thanks for your comments so far boys and sorry for the confusion

One single picture of the engine bay would suffice and a close up of the ECU label, the young lady surely has a camera phone?
