Hi ive been on forum on and off over the years panda classics mainly had a few of them . I picked up a high miler 145000 2003 sei sporting which was in use by same owner from new until just before christmas. Ive gone over car and it seems remarkably good condition apart from a constant gurgling noise from around front drivers side. Coolant was low so i refilled and had the bleed valve open near front drivers head lamp all bled well heater works perfect and seemed like happy days. Then the noise returned and i popped the oil fill plug and theres a tiny bit of froth on the oil . Ive put that down to it being sat in sub zero temps and wet for the past month and not been driven . There is no oil in coolant heater works well fan kicks in but my question is how do i stop the gurgling noise . I couldnt see any other bleed valves just the one. And any seasoned sei owners maybe able to advise on oil froth is it a obvious sign of chg faolure on this engine god only knows when last oil change was . Any help appreciated. Thanjs.

There is another bleed valve on the bulkhead under the bonnet near where the heater pipes enter into the car.
Give that a bleed.

After bleeding air out of coolant system and running it on idle for a good 40 mins there was no obvious chg failure symptoms. No oil in water no water in oil and heater ran cold warm and hot when control was changed, and after some time of no heater being on and idling, the cooling fan kicked on and off as it should do. Plugs all showed dry and clean on checking them albeit extremely hard to remove from the block . Took car for a good 40 mile run and coolant level has held at max.

I still have a gurgling noise so im a bit stumped all i could do i guess is get a CHG test done. Has anyone else come across this problem and if so any sensible suggestions on a fix please.

If you haven't lost coolant thats got to be good.

Is the gurgling noise there all the time, even when stationary?

Not sure if it's relevant on a Sei but on other cars I've had blocked bulkhead drain holes.

This gives more of a 'sloshing' noise when driving/going around corners.

Thought I'd chuck it out there just on case.

Good luck.

thank you for replies.

i took car to local garage today and had a CHG test and all is good.(y)

So we discussed options regarding gurgling noise and drained the oil which to be fair had probably been in there for an age ( i wasn't going to put new oil in until id sorted out the possible head issue) ... the oil that came out was sludge and more like tar which when hot was probably running so thin it sounded like water ive not a clue what oil had been put in previously or when but it had clearly lost some of its properties ... After the oil was replaced and new filter fitted the gurgling noise has gone ....so as far as i can see that's cured it. Thanks once again.
