for some reason though it seems to be rather thirsty and at my m.ot the exhaust gas check showed it wasnt burning fuel very well.

do you think changing to the 38mm punto 75 tb will help as its a tuned system?

A good starting point would be to hook it up to a code reader first. Just to make sure there isn't any issues anywhere else unrelated to your mods.
