Picked up a super cheap Sei Sporting today as I need a runabout over winter whilst my mx5 is off the road. It only cost me £150 and is all straight with a newish exhaust and clutch, pulls nicely and sounds healthy.

I knew when buying that it had a power steering issue so now it's how to fix it. I could just go straight in and buy a new column with motor and ECU but i'd like to try some more basic and cheaper fixes first.

Basically when the car starts up after several seconds the red EPS light comes up, the power steering goes on and off at will which is rather disconcerting. I found the ECU for it in the footwell and wanted to check the earth but can't see where it is? One thing I did notice is a connector coming out from behind the ECU that wasn't plugged into anything, could just be a redundant plug on the loom but thought it worth a mention.

Any advice on the matter hugely welcome, I have done some searching on here before posting but don't think it's the alternator.

Cheers

Yer the speedo seems to work fine, it's the SPI engine so the sensor is taken from the alternator not the speed I believe. First port of call will be the earthing point but I can't seem to find it.
