I'm looking for a standard 165/55/R13 tyre that are good in the wet.

Can anyone recommend one?

Thanks

Can't help you on that size, but i'd opt for upgrading to 175/50/R13, more tyre options available.

I had Continentals fitted to my old Cinq 12 years ago in 175's unbelievably grippy :)

Thanks for the advice. It would mean I would have to buy 4 rather than the 2 front tyres I need to replace. Not sure what the insurance company would say.

Yoko A539s are pretty good in the wet and available in that size.

I got the Seicento abarth rims with 185/50/14 Yokohama A539 and i'm happy how the car drives in wet weather.

I will look around and see if I can afford 4 new tyres size 175/50/R13.

Thanks all for the info and advice.

I can vouch for the dry grip of the yoko a539's in 175/50x13. Ive tried the 511 nankangs in the standard 165/? X 13 and found they were rubbish.
Wet grip however with A539's is not spectacular on smooth tarmac, so I use Uniroyal rain experts in a 155/70 x13 - not an obvious choice but they work great on grass as well and 2 new sets of tyres to trash on fun events is all I can afford.
Expect to pay around £60 each on a good day for them normally £65 and I've seen them as high as £88. For the Uniroyals anout £35 each.
These 2 tyres seem to be the main options for most autotesters I compete against.
Where do you live? I'm competing at Curborough sprint course near Lichfield in 2 weeks , you could passenger for me on a couple of tests if you could get there and see if you think they are any good - assuming its dry. You might have to pay £1 for a days membership of cannock car club but if youve never done one before, it will be good fun.

I don't actually think insurance would care, they're usually only bothered by different wheels. Of course, if you're concerned, you could just ask them if they'd be OK with it :p

Correct. If a different size tyre fits on the same wheel safely then its not an issue. As long as you have the same size on the same axle for the sake of the MOT. I have two different size tyres on the back of my van. Buggered if i have a rear puncture but you would never notice when driving.
