As I'm going for the 'long haul' with this Sei, and as I'm now in the 21st century (after 10 yrs of Panda ownership...) I thought I'd try and get ahead of the fault code game and invest in some kind of code reading gear...

So, this morning I took delivery of a cheapie eBay bluetooth dongle and set about 'pairing' - after a half hour or so of mounting frustration to-ing and fro-ing between the car and You Tube about to give it up as a waste of £3.50 lol, I decided to see if the laptop would find the damn thing! ...and yay it did! Therafter the phone did as well  ... (ps. I have trouble with the bloody Sky remote...)

So, here I am, 21st century Mick lol - no fault codes found and nothing 'historic'... :( - I was expecting to find something on a 14yr old car... (just so I could test the clear facility!) - still, no codes are good codes, eh..? :slayer:

Question is - is the Pro version worth putting on mi Chrimbo list lol..?

What should be really on your Christmas list is a laptop if you don't already have one lmfao
The multi ecu scan leads that are on eBay and multi ecu scan :) it will give you far more diagnostic power being able to read airbags the power steering ect then your little Bluetooth dongle will

I have the Pro version, excellent for live data and logging of engine sensors. Well worth the couple of quid it costs for the pro version. Made it back in one ecu fault reading. Has come in handy so many times since.

However, it only covers engine ECU's, nothing else. Access to the likes of ABS, Airbag etc will have to be done through something like MultiECUScan.

There is also the AlfaOBD app for Android that can do essentially all the stuff that MES can, however, I have not been able to try it out (on my Grande) because AlfaOBD is very picky about BT interfaces that it works with. Most of the BT dongles out there are not true / real ELM 327 chip based, and this is what AlfaOBD does not like. I am yet to get a proper dongle and test it out, no time though to play with car stuff, so it gets delayed all the time.

Well the Pro doesn't have the startup screen or adverts, so worth the few quid it costs (being a bit tongue in cheek there about the Christmas list lol)

Had it set up today with rev counter and temp gauge with biggest dials poss on a phone screen - be good to have a phone holder now rather than trying to wedge it in the little RH glove box... ;)

The digital/analogue display is neat as is the maximum high red marker that notes that position after the needle goes back down. Looks like fan cuts in at 97° and runs till temp drops to 94... wonder what it needs to get up to to illuminate the coolant warning light..? Something telling me Fiat set it to come on at 100° - not much margin for error if so...

Torque is really just a auxiliary instrument / performance "measuring" app with basic code reading. Note that on some models of car it gives inaccurate readings. It's good for what it is intended for but it's not a diagnostic tool.
At least try the unregistered version of Multiecuscan (MES) www.multiecuscan.net . It will work with Bluetooth but a wired adaptor is recommended if you are doing anything that could cause damage. An interface and adaptor leads is about £15 on ebay/amazon, search for multiecuscan Elm usb. MES does have a "dashboard" app too but it's for windows and only works with some cars. AlfaOBD is also worth a look and has an android version if you want to stick with your phone.

Okay, thanks for the input guys - lappy it is for diagnostics then (y)
Do I need 3.3 MES or an earlier version would you say..?
Pro version and interface (for any future diagnostics) both on Chrimbo list then!

No running issues at present, thankfully, but as originally posted, I'm looking long term as I don't fancy towing a Smart Car  ...and lightweight cars are becoming a thing of the past - in fact I reckon the Sei is the last of the little Fiats with a sub 750kg kerb weight

Down Cambridge this weekend - nice little CL at Cottenham - good late opening little chippy - Colne Valley in steam this Sunday - fingers crossed weather will stay fine... :slayer:

<SNIP>

Hi always use the latest version of MES, (3.3 at the moment). They never remove functionality. Try for free and when everything is working and you are happy, pay the €50 registration fee.

Download the app 4shared, make an account, then search torque pro and download the .apk file. That's how I got my pro for free ?

Also make sure your phone or tablet is set to download from unknown sources and then just click on the file to install it

And if everyone does that, the developers will give up and no one will have any decent software

MES, Alfa OBD and Torque are a fraction of the cost of a typical main dealer diagnostic read, just pay up.

And please don't promote software piracy on the forum. I don't know about Torque, but the coder of MES is a member here.

Pay for the app, then you get lifetime updates and extra sensors added when they become available.

Not to mention, it's coming from a reputable source. Your free hookie version could contain malware or anything malicious. Not worth the risk (n)

Def would pay for the app to support developer... price of a pint... how do they do it? He did release a free version after all - I know what goes into these things as my lad's a Java developer (y) - it can take forever just to construct the graphics - we take those guys for granted - they're not called software engineers for nothing!
...meanwhile I'm just dead chuffed to have a temperature gauge :worship:

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to offend or upset anyone but for a 16 year old with no credit card it was an option for getting the app.
