I know, I know I haven't been on here for ages. I honestly thought I wouldn't be back. Things went sour. The car refused to become road legal. money became too tight to mention and the ever increasing list of things you have to do to get on a track got ever increasing.
Anyway, things are better now. The car and I went to RELATE. The nice MOT man was in a good mood ( or was fed up with me crying) and the fact that I would rather sell my mother than take the best price offered for the Cinq means that possibly I am back in mind with sprinting the car again.

So I am off to see a Scroot tomorrow but before I go it appears pretty important that I determine whether the standard 1.1 block is the same as a Mk1 Punto Sporting one. The head and all that other stuff matters not a jot, just whether the block is externally identifiable as the same.

Any thoughts?

I'm not sure what you're trying to ask, but i "think" the answer you need is.... "no". Just on the basis you say mk1 punto sporting.

The 1.1 everything is totally different to everything mk1 punto sporting, which either came as the early 1.6 8v or the later 1.2 16v.

In both cases the block is entirely different.

I think there is perhaps some confusion here, and you're looking for a 1.2 8v from a non sporting mk1, where all the externals, like the head etc all fit on the block. Block is slightly taller than the 1.1 8v. There's a very, very difficult to read engine number above the water pump housing on the block on them all.

Thanks for the reply. The Blue Book is very confusing and there is one class for cars modified but retaining an engine block that is "externally identifiable as fitted to the original car" My cinq is 1.2 16v. So with the advice you have given it moves it to Sports Libre class. Fortunately it is road legal so I think I still get to drive on a National B license.
Anyway, I'll find out in a couple of hours hopefully.

From what I've read and understand you need to keep with the 1.1. Someone approached msa to see if they would accept a 1.2 8v and the answer was a definitive no.

But if you wanted to you can have a 1.1 16v or a sleeved 1.1 to 999cc and turbo or supercharge it and remain in 1400cc modified production class

On mine I've kept it a 1.1 8v with quite a few mods eventually I'll go a bit further with it all
