You'd not think that there could be so many variations on the 'same' car. In the process of doing the head gasket on Emilys car, so got a new cambelt. Come to fit it and it's different from the old one. The box would suggest it's right, but the new one had a different tooth pitch ..... back to the motorfactor for one that fits. We had this with the exhaust too, choice of 3 ... different diameters & lengths.
All parts ordered via the engine number as on the V5

It started first turn of the key (y)(y)

Emily informed me yesterday, a few days of use later, that it doesn't seem quite as fast as it was before.
Of all that have done this job, did you get the marks of the crank & cam shaft to line up with the two lines on the new cam belt? The Gates belt had two lines which I lined up with the marks on the crank & cam belt, but I didn't think that the marks lined up properly with the mark on the cylinder head and sump, so I jumped the belt a tooth. I though then that all four marks lined up with each other better .... From what Emily has said, it seems I need to jump the belt a tooth back.

Use the marks on the engine and pulleys over the marks on the belt.

Apologies for such a late reply .....

That was my thinking when I jumped the belt a tooth. I initially lined up the lines on the belt with those on the crank & cam sprockets, but the crank & cam marks didn't seem to quite line up with the corresponding marks on the block & cam ..... hence me jumping the belt a tooth. As it started first turn of the key I thought all was well. Then Emily said that her mean machine didn't seem quite as mean as it was before
