Hi all advice needed please, I am mid way through replacing the fuel tank on my 53 plate sei I have 2 questions that I need help with, firstly is there a knack to removing the pump unit as for the life of me I can't seem to get it out of the now removed tank it looks like it should go easy enough but something always catches on the wee lip around the rim? Also I have clumsily managed to snap the connector off one of the vents that sit in the tank either side. Is this an mot fail if I successfully manage to refit and gag the vent or should I be frantically searching for a replacement unit? Any advice would be gratefully received.

Hi Sid
The pump lifts out at an angle as there Is a bit that sticks out half way down. Needs patience and a little luck.... there will be a more accurate description of the method if you do a search on here.

With the pump I would say it's best to find a replacement part as the smell of petrol is probably the reason your changing the tank... you don't want it coming back.

Perhaps try eBay, local fiat dealer or scrap yard.

I used mole grips very gently around the base of the plastic breathers. I was worried about braking them too.

Good luck

Hi
I had the same problem removing the fuel pump
The only solution i could find was to split it in half inside the tank by very gently prising the 3 or 4 plastic fastening lugs open. The whole float mechanism can then fall apart, but its quite logical how it goes back together when its out of the tank
Think mime went back in in one piece, but what an unnecessary faff. I could almost hear the designers laughing as i cut my hands to ribbons trying to do an impression of a gynaecologist
