I have a Seicento 1.1 Sporting 2002.

What's the easiest way to check if I have power steering or not?

Thanks

I did say AFAIK (As Far As I Know) :p
but you SHOULD know :(
.... how can i extol your virtues as a font of all Fiat knowledge (& spelling/grammar) if you get that wrong
You wouldn't believe the verbal agression i suffered on another (non-Fiat) car forum for a similar mistake. It was like Lions on a Gazelle, or priests on a choirboy if you prefer.

My first Seicento had manual steering which was an S reg. I think it was only really early Seicentos that had manual steering. It was exactly the same as my sisters cinquencento, down to the same steering wheel. It was also an S reg so I guess there was some overlap in components?

The Sei was basically a re-bodied Cinq -they used what was effectively the same running gear, engine, chassis etc.
(in the same way that the new Fiat 500 is basically a re-bodied Panda).
EPAS was standard on the MPI models but i think it might have been an option on some of the earlier SPI Sei's.
Never came across a Cinq with EPAS -though if i had i would have bought one! I like/want the power steering.... but i still prefer the look of the Cinq.

Being a mod doesn't mean knowing everything, tbh it's mostly about being online a lot so I can delete spam before you guys even get to see it and moving threads and responding to reports.

As for being abused on another forum, that's because they don't own Fiats :p

Is it a straight forward to job to put the EPAS from an MPi onto an SPi? I have both cars but my MPi is my spares car so I can afford to lose it from that car.

From info given on previous threads - NO!.... but it is perfectly possible.
(Craigb244 amongst others even fitted it to a Cinq!).
Seems you need to change steering rack, steering column, top mounts etc.
Fingers99 mentioned aftermarket electric power steering units as being available -but i've never come across these so who knows.

Yeah, I have heard that the top mounts are different so its not a simple swap. Did the SPI power steering seicentos have hydraulic power steering or were they all EPAS?

My GUESS is.... IF there were SPI's with power steering (as some sources allude to) then they probably would have used the EPAS system. I can't see Fiat spending a small fortune on R&D in order to fit a hydraulic steering system to a very small number of Sei's.
I think you will have to Google yourself silly to find the answer to this one - so all i can say is Happy Hunting & Good Luck!

Screw it I'll not bother haha. It's not that difficult to turn anyway. Thanks guys.

I would also like to know if my car has power steering? It's a LHD 1998 Abarth with SPi. No answers yet in this thread.

Hi :)

One simple test:

Turn the ignition key to MAR

LOTS of lights will come on to do a 'self.test'

Then they go off after a few seconds leaving oil battery and handbrake

The Yellow emissions symbol .. and a

RED STEERING WHEEL should show for the 'test'

The RED wheel is the EPAS failure light ;)

Do let us know what you find :)

Thank you. There is no 'steering wheel light' so I presume no PAS.
At least I don't need to repair it.

some early sei did come without PAS, I've only ever come across one myself, a 98 is early though so very possible.

seicento PAS is electric so there would be a motor and control box on the column behind the plastics.. But really, when stationary is it really easy or does it require effort to turn the wheel - you can turn a PAS sei steering with your little fingers when not moving. Without PAS when stationary it requires effort. Once moving the weight of the steering isn't that different but theres more feedback without PAS.

Only difference between a non-PAS sei and a PAS one besides the actual column is the suspension top mounts. If your sei doesnt have PAS and you need suspension top mounts buy cinq ones. It gives a slightly different castor angle, which is part of the alignment that really affects the weight of the steering. With sei top mounts the steering is heavier than cinq mounts to go with the PAS

Hope this helps ;)
