Hi,
Got a tax question if anyone can help?

Bought a seicento sx from a family member in Dec 2014, the car had a SORN from 2013 and has been parked since. I never registered the car in my name as I didn't know what to do, being young and not having a licence. I've recently applied for the v5 and was told by the dvla to include a sorn notice from the same date I bought the car, 1st Dec 2014.

However, somehow they say they only received the v5 application and I owe them around £157 for 13 months tax ?

Anyone know if I've got a leg to stand on just another bill to add to the growing list ?

Cheers!
Jord

I thought that too but was told by their customer service that as long as I sent a SORN form from the same purchase date it would be ok..

Anyway, rang the tax debt department of the DVLA, was told there is no outstanding tax to pay and that the vehicle was registered as a SORN in my name now, she also said that should anything happen, as long as I can prove the car wasn't driven duribg that time then I'm safe

Which is now possible from today's MOT fail! ?

Going to take everything I've been told with a pinch of salt as each rep has told me something different ?

Cheers for the reply

You can drive directly to a pre-booked MOT and directly home again afterwards while it is SORN (because you can't tax it until it has an MOT).
BUT make sure it is properly booked in for the MOT and that they have made a note of the reg number. That way you've done everything by the book if it gets picked up on a camera while still SORN.

Yeah, made sure I knew all that stuff before I went

Took the car to the closest MOT station to where it was parked then I drove it about 10 miles to home after the MOT so it can get fixed quicker ☺

Thanks for the help
