Hi everyone, i'm new to all this but i have some knowledge in cars and maintenance, i have a 2000 fiat seicento 0.9cc and i have recently had a new passenger side drive shaft because it was leaking gear oil that problem has now been resolved however i am now leaking gear oil from the seal that is located at the end of the drive shaft that is in the gear box.

The seal was not replaced as they dont manufacture them any more so i am stuck with what to do. Any help would be greatly apprecieated. I have been looking for measurements for the seal or a place that makes them but so far had no luck if any one knows the measurements or somewhere i can get them from this information would be fantastic!

Hi, I think i have already had a new one of those put on however i'm not sure. Would a new boot be fitted when fitting a new drive shaft? also my mechanic has suggested that it could be the seal that is around the flange and this is the seal i am struggling to get hold of.

The boot should have been replaced with the driveshaft. There is no other seal the boot goes direct over the flange on the gearbox and is secured with a steel band.

Hi, thanks for clarifying that for me, any suggestions as to why I am loosing gearbox oil from this area?

Possibly securing band not on correctly or tight enough. Sometimes the boot has split at the band. Is the boot secured on the flange with a cable tie?

The boot is secured on with a metal band is it possible that it's not on tight enough? Also if I were to have flange sealant applied and the metal band tightened would this cure the leak?

Okay so it's been a while now and my car has been back and fourth to the mechanic at first they did something that stopped the leak for a while and then it slowly came back, I was finally able to get a bearing and seal unit which I had fitted the other day and that had stopped one leak and I've found another (that i think has been hidden by the first one until that was solved) this newly discovered leak doesn't appear to be coming from the inner CV boot but in fact looks like it is coming from the bottom bolt on the flange or the bottom of the flange in the area of this bolt. If it is leaking from this bolt/flange how would I stop this leak?

I've done some more investigating into the leak and cleaned all the bottom of the flange and so on to get a better idea of where it's leaking from while doing this I noticed that looks like the metal band has a gap of about an inch between the band and the boot at the bottom, would this cause a leak? Oh just to make it more interesting it has gone from leaking all the time to only leaking when the car has been driven ever since I had the new bearing and seal unit fitted, any ideas?
