I know this has probably been asked before but is there a more efficient rad available for the MPI.
Just suffered a stuck thermostat and RAC removed to get car drivable(son's car out and about at time). RAC chap recommended changing rad and uprating, if pos, as Sei rads renowned for getting blocked up.
There are various rads available from £15 up to around £50.
Original Birst available at £50 and also Magnetti £50.
Tempted to pay the extra and get the original Magnetti?
Anyone know of uprated rads available?
Cheers.

There was once upon a time.... a thicker ally MPI rad -they used to use them on Mini 16V engine conversions, can't remember the name of the company but they went belly-up. Haven't been able to find anyone else doing them.
As long as everything else is in fine fettle the standard rad is fine -after all many of the the 16V Sei boys use them.
Blocked rad??? Why??? Thoroughly clean the system & use De-ionized water if you live in a hard water area, 5Ltr is dirt cheap from Asda/Tesco etc.
£50 is a damn good price for a Marelli so i'd go for that, bought mine from http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0CCIQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.unto.pl%2F&ei=F7mTVbDgNof1UsP-gPgD&usg=AFQjCNEpshBDFLDkt0H-ZZLhXoahGkbKcA&bvm=bv.96952980,d.d24
Good source of original parts & much cheaper than the UK if you're buying lots -even with delivery & exchange charges!

Edit: Ah yes Rochester, north built on London clay & the south on 'the chalk'.

the rad is fine, i use the cinq rad and i believe that's slightly smaller in my 16v!

No overheating issue whatsoever. Just need to make sure the fan is working!

I haven't heard many cento rads getting blocked!

I think his problem is less about deficits in the rad design & more to do with geology. It's OK for you with your soft nancy Scottish water filtered through tons of granite

, he's probably using hard water straight out of bore holes on the North Downs -clogs up coolant systems & makes a bloody awful cup of tea :yuck:.

in that case i must not top up my current car with essex water haha!

Very easy to buy pre-mixed coolant, then no worries about contents of tap water.

Think my new Aluminium Cinq rad was about £20.
Old one failed due to fins crumbling, not internal blocking or leakage.

Sorry to take so long to reply, having a few car probs! I went for the Marelli but haven't changed it yet. Looks like car is fine as is and we are looking to sell if anyone interested? It has an ABS warning and handbrake is totally useless. Going to get these sorted for MOT (due end of Sept) and put up for sale, OFFERS.
