I am seeking advice among Fiat lovers:
Does anyone knows if the 4.231 final drive from 4 and 5 speed Panda classic(Fire engine) fits the Cinquecento sporting gearbox?
Thank you all in advance for your help.

Depends on the type of box fitted. Spurtings have the dry shaft c-514 if I remember my numbers.
Check the id number on the box first.
Remember, you won't just be able to swap the diff. The crown wheel of the diff is different, you will need the main shaft also. The gears are a pair and won't match otherwise.

4.231:1 sounds quite short, I take it you want acceleration over cruising speed?

Don't know about the Panda but why haven't you swopped your 15/58 FD c514 gearbox for a 14/57 FD c514 gearbox from one of the UK spec 14" wheel Michael Schumacher (Ltd Edition) MPI Sporting, or a MPI Abarth (or just buy the crown-wheel & pinion (they will be stamped 14/57)).
If you need to get one from the UK this guy might be able to help

Not as good acceleration as the 4.9 & 4.2 FDs you have looked at before but it might help on your autoslalom

BTW: as you know there is no way of knowing if it is a GENUINE 4.071:1 MPI Abarth gearbox without stripping it out -but if it's still in the car check the vehicle identification plate in the boot....
MPI Abarths were factory built & will have code of 187 AXC 1A 02C, the standard 13" wheel MPI Sportings =187 AXC 1A 02B.

It is conceivable to be able to do a mash up of ratios from different boxes, until you get a set up that suits.

I am tempted by a 500 box for mine, as they are c-514 boxes and return some impressive long ratios. They are also coming into the realm of affordability.

:O, does that mean swap the gear change mech and it fit the older fire engine?

Ye, from the pics I can find on the box, all looks the same. I found a sales brochure online from the USA. It gave the ratios, when I worked it all out it ended up at 72mph at 3000 rpm, with my wheels and tyres.

I think you may only have to swap the brackets that hold the gear linkage cables and the clutch arm. Because the gear change mech looks the same.

All the casting and mount holes on the box itself are still there from the 90's versions, in fact even the driveshaft cups look identical to cinq sportings. from the pics though, without the gear linkage bracket off from the ka/500 version (which everyone leaves on, annoyingly) they it's impossible to tell for sure whether the bellhousing is 100% the same, but some pictures of the bracket make it look as thought it is, so the 3 bolt bracket for our linkages should be a straight fit too. Worst case scenario if not, then the bellhousing could be swapped but it looks like it could well be a straight fit aside from swapping the clutch arm over, which has to be done if you are using a newer punto/stilo box anyway!

After a fail with a Palio 1.2 box(which is and SOHC box with bellhousing to fit fire engine) I am looking for a Panda classic 5 speed box, does it fits cinquecento mounts, driveshaft cups and selector?
Thank you all in advance for your help.
