IMAG0975.jpg This is clearly an old lightening job circa 2002

IMG_3249.jpg Oily bits to go off to be balanced, knife edged and lightened some more:)

IMG_3250.JPG Hone, strip and repaint

IMAG0999.jpg Wrong Cam... Bizarre. Easily sorted, thanks DragonMan

Wrong cam??? Are you maaad?? Richard just had cams reground to his spec... so someones either sold the cam at some point or youve just removed a regrind to replace with a lesser item...

Im liking the freshening up... youre approach to refreshing things is similar to mine.... getbit home and tear it apart :p

I may even subscribe to this one (y)

I did think that, and i am having it checked, just thought it best to cover my bases with the 866, just incase the machine shop says it's standard.
This rework is not being rushed and I just want to enjoy the process. It's months till we're considering even putting the oily bits back together.

I am trying to find out the cam specs, I.e duration lift and overlap however it is proving to be a minefield. Ahhhh. Does anyone have a comprehensive listing of these, I would be extremely grateful for any input?

Thanks

The Engine bits are now all finished and the fun process of putting all the bling together starts....

Even the oil pump got a Glyptal coating to prevent oil cling

Engine about to 'drop in'

Sneaky peek with rocker cover off to check clearances.

So far the first part of the run in has been done and I am down to the semi synthetic oil stage so still only revving and pushing about 80%

First thoughts are the huge amounts of torque, it'll pull from 15mph in fifth and once the car is rolling you only really need fourth. It feels like we've dropped in a 1.6 litre normally aspirated engine. As the engine frees up the top end is coming.

The noise is just bonkers, not too loud, but it revs and 'blips' on the throttle like a motorbike.

I'm so pleased so far and once the run in is complete, a custom mid pipe and back box is on the cards. Then for mapping.....

Nice job on the crank, who did that?

Nope. Really have a problem with them. Always fall off and rattle.
So I machined the rocker cover flange off to make it all look clean.
