Hi, we have recently bought a 1999 Fiat Sciento 900 which has done 49000 miles.
It starts and drives ok but seems noisy around the alternator, I was told it had a replacement alternator so it should be ok but I wanted to know if it could be a bearing on the water pump? Is this hard to change!
Also I want to replace the alternator belt and is they anything I need to be concerned about? Does it affect the timing ?
I think the 900 engines have a cam chain instead of a belt.
Thanks dave.

I recently had a new alternator put on my Grande Punto, and when I got the car back from having this done, I was shocked by how much quieter it was.

I think you need to remove the TDC sensor to change the belt.

Correct, they have a chain which rarely gives any trouble.
They do often have noisy tappets on the rockers though, but being a Sei 900 it will have the later type which should be better. No manual adjustment on the Sei 900 rockers.
