Hi All,

Back in November I bought a seicento sporting 'ebay special' for a few hundred quid. I've been meaning to ask for a while, do the rest of you find they have a fair bit of body roll? More like a quad bike than a go kart, as I'm often seen the sei described as.

My last few cars have all been hot hatch type things, so big engines, low, with a firm ride & a lot in the way of body roll. I don't know if, because of my previous cars, I'm expecting too much of the little sei or if there's something up with the car, like the shocks are all knackered. In normal day to day driving it's ok, it just gets a little scarier around the fast, tighter corners. I was just interested to see how other people find their sportings handling.

Cheers

Yeah, tyres is something I'd like to get sorted but the standard alloys don't allow a lot of choice. I was thinking about rolling/ widening the arches and then trying to source something in a 185/ 195 tyre but then I've got to find a set of wheels that'll match. This isn't my main car, I just use it for getting to work and back to save a bit of cash on fuel, so I don't want to spend a lot of money of mini lites etc.

Lowering it is probably the cheapest option, I've seen lowering springs for less than £100 and while the suspension's off the car I can get a better idea of what sort of state the shocks are in.

Thanks for the help guys, it gives me a better idea of what direction I should be going with the car.

lower it,as for tyre options go 14" is best idea really or get 175 wide in 13" form arnt bad had full set allround on my little sporting made it a hoot to drive

Hi Cento186

when you say 30mm drop, is that 30mm below a sportings ride height or a standard car?

Mine rolls more than I would like it to, and I've also been looking around for a kit to do it all (about £400 ish seems to be the price for a decent kit and there's quite a few choices of brands and many more "Aldi" unbranded type kits on ebay)

Just an idea:
I've got a front anti roll bar on my Moggie which wasn't expensive, is very simple in design and comes with all the bushes/brackets etc and I reckon it would be a dead easy adaption with a little bit of welding/shortening to fit the rear of a Sei. The ends of the ARB fit into steel encased rubber bushes, not ball joints etc so it could be cut down to fit Sei rear suspension - you could put the bushes wherever you wanted on the bottom of the rear wishbones to suit the ARB profile. It is Kit MOD140 from Bull Motif Morris Minor spares £89.95

I'll do some measuring up on the Moggie next weekend if it's dry and post some figures so everyone can have a look and maybe somebody could work out if it can be done.

I'd be interested to hear how the rear ARB works out. I've got plans to eventually use mine for autosolos and targa rallies (Targa rallies are like small stage rallies but without the cage, safety equipment etc & much shorter sections, so handling is more important than out right speed) so want to build a bit more oversteer into it.

I'll keep an eye out for some cheap 175/50 tyres, a bit fatter and lower than my standard ones.

Check out the black box's thread. He has done a lovely job of fitting an arb into the rear beam.
I think he was on about doing them to buy. PM him and ask, I don't think he bites :)

Hi Fingers

its probably because I'm too old and therefore computer illiterate, but where is the post on The Black Box's Rear ARB. Love to see the pics
Thanks

Hi Paul
Targa rallies a new one on me.
have done a few autotests this year and a couple of trials, all production car variety which limits modifications. Hoping to find some autosolos this year.
What spec are you looking to build your car to, and so we dont go off topic too much how much body roll are you planning to eliminate
I felt that although there was plenty of body roll on the tests, the Sei had very good grip with a nice bit of oversteer when called for and I might need convincing that chucking a boatload of cash at it will improve things to a proportionate level
If you're looking for 175/50 x 13 tyres I love my new(ish) Yokohama A539's - bags of lovely grip - only problem is I'm wasting tread on road journeys - they don't last forever and at £80 a pop they're not cheap and every corner you take is asking for it !!:D

They've only been about a couple of years. Most of them are in MOD bases in Suffolk/ Norfolk. Have a look at http://chelmsfordmc.co.uk/TargaRally/M&HPhotography14 for more info. They run to production car rules but there seems to be quite a liberal view of standard.

The targa events give the tyres quite a kicking, so as much as I like the A539's (I use them on my 106 tarmac rally car) I think it's going to be costly to use them.

Body roll at the moment is a little scary so if I could get it feeling a bit more controlled I'd be happy.
