I have a 2002 Seicento sporting.

I know nothing about how car gearboxes work (motorcycles yes, cars no) or how the gear lever goes about its job, or even how it connects to the gearbox (i saw a wheeler dealers episode where Ed China was fiddling with some linkages, does mine have them?)

So anyway I recently had a new clutch fitted (3mths ago) but in the last couple of weeks i've experienced problems changing gear, it seems like 3rd & 5th are now only a couple of mm apart, see crude drawing. And 1st seems either further away or a lot further away from 3rd than it used to be, often trying to put it in 5th i'm getting 3rd and reverse can be difficult to select.

Any ideas? has fitting the clutch moved something, or is it normal wear?
Any pictures or drawings of what i should be looking at any help?

hmm check the cable retainer clips on the top of the box also i know on chinqs if you you forget to reattach the reverse lockout cable although i know on the secento its done within the selector as in the stick inside so 1st check the retainers then the lockout its on the top of the box near the selector should either be a bolted down cap or a cable coming from the front of the selector.

my guess is that the cables are out of alignment, so some bracket etc is on back to front or bent or similar. Think it'll be the upper cable who's bracket bolts onto the gearbox/engine join area is the most likely to be missing a bolt
