Happy Christmas everybody
i was adjusting my handbrake today ready for this saturday's autotest and theres a strong smell of petrol by the tank
it doesnt appear to be from the filler cap and the tank looks in good nick, but obviously i cant check the top surface for corrosion
any ideas before a strip down?

Remove the access panel under the back seat, put enough petrol in that it's nearly full. With someone it the car, shake he'll out of it and watch for any petrol creep, give you an idea where it's coming from.

If there is no physical wet petrol liquid, don't worry about it for now.

I replaced my leaky tank and still had a fuelly smell with no visible leaks. I found mine was related to the 1 way valve on the fuel filler. It wasn't fully sealing off so would allow vapour out. Replaced it.and it's been perfect since

hi dac69er
is that the flappy green bit you're referring to?

Not sure what you mean by flappy green bit???

If you take the wheel arch liner bit off that covers the fuel filler pipe you will see a vent pipe from the filler neck that has a one way valve attached.

EBay item no. 181073439042 is similar to what I got. I got a plastic version. check the tail ends are correct. I think it's 6mm but can be 100%.
