So yesterday i decided to do the head gasket in my poory sei. I looked at the guide and part of it said to take out the blue sensor on the inlet manifold but when i had a look i couldnt clearly see one. Has anyone got a pocture showing where it is clearly? Also im having trouble taking out the arch lineing as one of the bolts just spins. So is it possible to losen the cam belt from the top? And im also not sure how to mark it all for when i put it all back together for the timing. I know this is a big one, sorry and thanks in advance

You need the Seicento Technical Manual from the Downloads section. Or the Cinq haynes manual.

Think it through. It's a false economy to do the head gasket without skimming the head. And it makes sense to change the water pump and cam belt at the same time. You're going to have to remove the alternator pulley to do that.

You don't need to mark up the pulleys -- the marks are there already.

Why did the head gasket go in the first place?

Ok. I was just going to clean uo the head a little bit thats all seing as though it doesnt seem to be too bad just yet. And im not sure why it went i think it had started to go just before i baught it with 33,000 on the clock and in the past 4 months ive put another 3,000 on. Im just putting it down to normal wear and tear because it doesnt seem to have ever been done before

worth checking function of cooling fan,;)

you CAN get away without skimming, as long as the head hasn't been cooked,
check VERY carefully for warping / and ,or /erosion though,

as stated worth flushing cooling system, then new thermostat, cambelt and tensioner too, (y)
at 33k miles, it's probably on original head bolts,
up to you if you replace or re-use,
lot of work to go over though if they do fail..,:bang:
your call, Charlie

MrPheasey can't win. First everyone tells him not to use K-Seal and how easy it is to do a head gasket. So now he decides to do the head gasket everyone tells him how hard it is going to be!

Read his K-Seal thread and you will see he has not done this before and needs hand holding. Be gentle. Can't offer much help myself sorry as I have never done a HG on a Seicento. But I do think 33,000 miles is early for a HG to go unless there is a problem somewhere which would have caused it, such as overheating at some point, so I would be inclined to go for the skim myself.

By the way, if I remember right, one of the nuts which undoes the wheel arch liner does not go into a captive nut but is a standard nut and bolt which will need two spanners. That's why it's spinning round. Stick your hand round the back of the liner and you should be able to feel it. I think it's the one which joins the wheel arch liner to another sheild/liner but my memory fails me exactly at the moment.

Ian.

I've not owned a sei, but did the HG in a cinq sporing, ;)
as well as a punto 55, and modern 1108 panda ( twice- other issue:bang: ),

so know you can do the job for £10.. = 1 gasket

if you want info - just ask..,
that's why we're a FORUM,:D

Haha yeah was going to go with the k seal but as everyone said it would be best to just do it as its "so easy" i thought ide give it ago. The only think that im abit nurvous on is that cam belt and the timing and all that jazz. I got as far as taking the cam cover off and the injectors and flushed out the coolent. Going to get a jack tomorrow i think so i can do it abit easyer.

yes i baught some new head bolts.

And i dont think it was an over heating problem, when stuck in traffic for a period of time the fans would come on and then turn off after a couple of minutes and run completly fine

I was actually picking up some of the gaskets from my local motor factors and i asked about the k seal because i saw it behind the counter and he thought it was great stuff but would you trust something to fix your gaskets that costed under a tenner?

It's very rare for a HG to just go. Generally overheating, corrosion (running with ancient or no anti-freeze) or detonation (mainly in turboed cars) do for them.
