Hi all. What are the biggest plug and play calipers you can fit on a cinq.

I know some puntos are 257mm solid, and the gt is 257 vented. Will the coupe 280mm fit? They are going behind 14" wheels.

If it's the 257mm, was it just the punto gt that had the vented 257's?

I've got an alfa 146 with the big 280mm up front, and they are 98pcd 4 stud vented, but I haven't had a chance to try the 14" wheels over the top yet.

Just thought I would pick you're brains.

I know the Uno Turbo ones are 13" wheels minimum for cento size but vented. Punto GT ones need 14" wheels.

I believe the Alfa 145/6 did run 14" on some so unless you know the exact car they came from the best way is to try it out. If not PGT Calipers are the way to go and should be more than adequate.

If you want to stick to 14" wheels you can fit up-to 257mm solid or vented (reccomended). If you want 15" you can fit up-to 280mm (Alfa V6, Coupe Turbo and etc). By my opinion, and much will agree, the 257mm PGT (or similar) setup is capable enough of decent stoping power for this vehicle.

No point in having massive braking power if the tyres cannot cope.
257mm non vented are found on considerably heavier cars, so are more than enough. My non vented ones tested at more than 3 times the power for the required level for MOT standard. Same power as the vented setup but less weight and cheaper discs.

As above. You can fit 280s if you fit 15" wheels as 280 discs are 11" already so put 14s over that and a caliper will be too much of a squeeze but they're is really no need unless your running a tjet

Cheers chaps, I thought the 257's would be the biggest.

I have drilled and grooved 240's on at the moment, I can boil the fluid and have the pedal on the floor with not to much bother.

It's not the absolute power I am looking for, just no fade.

I live in wales and there are mountain roads that will cook bloody carbon ceramic discs.
The road I have just come down on was cooking the alfa's brakes just now (b4310) and I was going quite slow, well for me ;) 100 plus, km of course officer.

I've put the 14" wheels on to measure up and there is about 1.5" between the outside of the caliper and the wheel.

What is the standard et on cinq wheels? These team dynamics ones are et 38. I seem to remember et28, so 10mm spacer needed.

When I'm on the laptop and not the ipad, I shall post a picture of me £5.50 fleabay wheels on this thread, quite 90's style.

Photos I hope.

This is pretty good. From memory, Blue 2 used 10mm on the front, 3mm on the rear with 35et.

There's probably an advantage to be gained from wider track at the front. Some Alfas used a 6mm spacer on the fronts, so maybe you could pop those on the back if they're just lying about?

Remember, the Cinq weighs one hell of a lot less than the Alfa, so I recon you'll be OK as long as you run vented fronts.

Jesus I'm thick. That's why they are called frequently asked questions.
Always forget about them.

Thank you fingers for showing me the error of my ways.

Running higher et number therefor would move you're centre steering point above the road surface, making steering lighter at low speeds, but twitchy at higher speeds. Hmm, lots to think of.

Just for the record. 280mm defiantly do not fit under 14's.

Took the wheel off the Alfa and tried it. About 10mm to small. Probably get that down with a spacer. But not much room if some dirt or gravel found its way in there.

Worth a pop though. Looked wicked when I got one stud in and took a step back.

I have read the list of cars with the correct callipers in faq. But rocking horse poo is easier to find.
I have a punto van handy that is scrap, but she has solids on (n)
Anyone know for sure any newer cars that have the correct callipers?

Blue has some early GT ones, but it is a bit far for me to travel. Weather is rubbish, or I would use it as an excuse to go for a spin on the bike.

I see. My compomotives will be for sale shortly as I'm going to 14s. I take it your going down from 14s? What tyre size did you use? My 13s are 6j on 175\60\13 and in reverse on full lock she just squeaks on the plastic arch liner. Would like it to miss on these.

The 185\60\14 on at the mo are friggin huge.
