After enquiring on here about modifying the 899 Bob and deciding whether to gamble £60 on a palio bob for unknown gain, I decided to have a go at making my own.
Bear in mind this is something I knocked up on my lunch break from a couple of old exhausts purely to see if it's worth making a proper one.
All that's left to do is drill 2 holes and test it :)
What do you guys think?
It's 3" in height and the inlet is 50mm.

Thanks. Yeah as I said it was just something I knocked up out of scrap as didn't want to spend money on it to find out there's no improvement or makes it worse due to letting too much air in.
Any advice appreciated :)

or you could try to make it a sweeping bend for a more sweeping angle rather than just a flat 90deg.

when making something like this its all about the smoothness of the air flow and how fast it can flow.

Ok so how about if I put a curved piece of steel inside so it swoosh straight in

Tidyed up a little bit with some abro steel so if it works it won't look horrendous until I make a proper one :)

Just a little update, has now had the mounting holes drilled, smooth out inside and painted and plan to fit this weekend :)

Ok so been a little while since I updated you lot as my wife finally had our first littleun and haven't had time.
New Bob has been fitted and tested and I'm happy to say it's a noticeable improvement through the throttle and makes a bit more induction noise which is great. Highly recommend doing this. Just need to make sure it has sealed properly against the tb as was slightly off fit but not bad for a draft :)

Just need to generally clean the bay up a bit now

Another piccy with its final coat of paint along with a couple other bits.
Shortened silicone pipe and silicone sealed to the TB to ensure no airleak

Hi,

I might be fantasising, but could a ram pipe be fixed on top of the TB (god knows what length to make it - the David Vizard calculations in my old mini tuning book mean diddly squat to me)
Encase the top end of the ram pipe in a modified air filter, similar to the ones on the thread, and cut a hole in the bonnet. Fabricate a suitable air scoop and hey presto no bends to worry about and a nice supply of cold forced air.
I might make one for fun and run it without the bonnet on to see if it works, before cutting any holes - not until next summer though.
If it only needs to project a couple of inches above the bonnet, it might not look too bad done properly
