Tuning 1.2 8v swap

Cheers for the tip fingers99 I'll have a look later.

Forgot to mention the new trailing arms have purple powerflex bushes.

Ordered the same stainless steel manifold that Huwbishop has.

Pockets are now a little lighter but because the money doesn't get spent on much it will be regenerated rather quickly so maybe some more things will be ordered later in the week.

And thought I had better put some pictures up of her because none have been uploaded yet.

Update on the manifold. It is not a bolt for bolt replacement.

It is designed to fit a punto, so when fitted to a cento, the cat is right where the arb is. Cut off the end of the manifold, and swell the end of the cat pipe to go over it. Only just had my cat, so didn't think about it.

Just remember to keep any joins male to female front to back, so gas flow is always that way round. That is what I was always taught anyhoo.

Something not right there then. Either with where the cat has been placed on your exhaust (if it's custom) or with the design of the manifold. (or missing an adaptor?)

The punto and cento downpipe are identical length wise. They both drop down the front of the block, go under the cut out of the sump and come out at the same place to bolt to the cat, so a manifold for a punto should also come out at the exact same place on the cento. The difference in the systems between the 2 cars come after the cat.

they are designed to fit the punto 55/60, so they must be the 10mm or so longer than a 1108 manifold or they wouldn't fit the 60 engine. Meaning the manifold will hang a bit lower and thus prob fouls the arb, is exactly what i would expect to happen tbh, but drop a 1242 in and problem solved ;)

Ye fingers is spot on as usuall, 1242 8v punto cabriolet engine.
So wake up blue ;)

I think the op has the same.

It isn't the vertical length that is the issue, that is spot on.
The cento has a cat and single downpipe in one piece. This mani has two down pipes that join to one under the sump, then out to a flange with two bolt holes.

If you have a look at my post, there are some rubbish grainy pictures on there.

I also have a punto 60 non type approved cat, that also has a flange with two bolt holes (not the same size of course). When all offered up the body of the cat is where the arb sits, I suspect puntos are longer :p

It isn't a problem if you have a cento exhaust with the cat fitted. All you do is chop the flange of the mani, cut the cento downpipe to the correct length, and swell the exhaust to fit over. Easy.

My way isn't hard, just cut the flanges off both and some of the cat pipe, and swell it. I was just being optimistic that it would all fit out the box. No such luck as usuall.

Eventually I plan to have a custom stainless exhaust front to back, but my wallet is getting a bit light, I have spent a fortune on paint etc to get the rusty bits back up to spec. I has been a while since I have used body lead.

I don't have 1242 engine in yet but will do hopefully mid-late next month end of April at the very latest depending on if I can borrow the workshop across the road in work and the single post lift.
Well the manifold turned up yesterday and pulled up the driveway after the gym today to be greeted by a white van carrying the trailing arms, ones in decent condition and the other in a not as good condition but they will both be cleaned treated under sealed and painted any way.

Ignore the screwdriver was giving everything a quick poke and scrape, was even given a bag with all the bolts still in one piece

Not sure if anyone else noticed but the manifold has a space for 2 O2 sensors so could possibly fit on the later mpi models, hopefully someone would be correct me if I am wrong.

One of my ideas if it gets things a little warm, was to drill into the ample flange material, and use the second lambda hole to put in a heat sheild.

Seems ok running on the ramp, yet to try it on the road, as the rest of the exhaust is not on, and it's now not got a friggin windscreen in. As I've found yet more rusty holes.

AAAAAArgh, bloody Italians and Polish.

Only kidding. Love em really.

Hi All,

I've got a 1999 sei which I think is SPI (square airbox) & reading this has got my thinking that a P75 engine would a nice & easy way to bump up my bhp by about 50%. I think I'm right in saying the P75 is a MPI engine, would it be a straight swap or would other bits needs uprating to cope with the spi/ mpi switch (fuel pump etc). Sorry to steal a thread but it didn't seem worth starting a new one.

Best thing to do is probably have a look at jatkinson's thread as he had a cinq which was spi but now has the p75 lump in I believe but I'm not sure what he has done to it.
I have heard that some run it on the standard ecu but p75 fuel pump but splice the 4 injectors into the single injector wire but don't quote me on that.
I'm sure someone will give you some more info than me as I've never done one.

P75 ecu, mpi sei fuel pump and of course the P75 engine.

Does it need new fuel pipes as well? I thought I'd seen somewhere that the spi has 2 pipes (fuel in and return) while the mpi has 4?

Been busy the last few weeks
•Engine is almost fully rebuilt just need to torque the big ends down and sealer the sump

•Trailing arms have been stripped, rust treated, hammerited and painted
•Flywheel now weighs 4.1kg but doesn't seem to want to have the clutch assembly bolt to it but will double check the more experienced lads tomorrow
•Didn't manage to blag a ramp and a week off but have managed a Friday evening, Saturday afternoon and Sunday as long as I keep her rolling so need to get everything before hand
With regards to the hose change I can assume it would be easier with the engine out but anybody who's done can you tell me how you got around this little bugger
