Hi.. Just bought a 2001 Sei sporting in grey with the full length sunroof.
Generally very happy with the car, but it does have a couple of probs which I could do with some advice with.
The rear tailgate has been replaced, very obvious as you can see where a previous yellow tailgate has been resprayed! The rear wiper and heated rear screen do not work. I have checked the fuses and cleaned up the connectors on the tailgate and the car itself but to no avail. Any ideas please?

Also, the car came with a Kenwood radio/cd which doesnt work - removed the unit and saw why - not connected at all! at the back of the unit is a connector(iso?) block, and the car wiring also has a block hanging down - but unfortunately the two blocks are a different size! Now, I think I may be able to muddle through the red / yellow being power leads, but am not sure where I should connect the eath cable coming out the back of the unit?

Sorry to fill my first post with multi questions, but all help/advice is appreciated.

Welcome to the forum and the wonderful world of centos!
First thing I would do with your tailgate electrics is make sure it's all there and wasn't just cut out when removed from the previous car.
As for your radio problems, maybe post a picture up so we can see what's going on :)

thanks for replies. I will try to work out how to add pics off my phone. Checked wiring to rear wiper and rear screen demister- all looks good.

Okay, I managed to import pics onto laptop, so now to give it a go to add to this message!

Hopefully you will be able to see the mass of cables, which just blows my mind! I guess if I attach the red and yellow cables from the loom to the same colour wires which go into the unit, that will be a good start? There is a seperate earth cable coming out of the rear of the unit, but what do I attach this to please?:confused::confused:

Usual culprit is the electrical connectivity between body & tailgate. Climb in boot, close hatch & test how far the power goes. Also worth unscrewing both plates to check their condition. (Have you checked if the tail brake light is working?) Bad earth on body plate connector caused enough heat on mine for the earth contact plate to be pushed inboard so i lost all the tailgate electrics.
As Cento pointed out there are conversion connectors available. Use the free downloadable workshop manual from this site for the wiring diagrams.
Separate black wire out the back of the head unit? Chassis earth??? Just run a short length of black cable with a ring crimp on the end & stick it under a bolt to anything that's earthed.

That's within a couple of quid of what you'd expect to see anywhere.

The problem comes when some dim wit has chopped the original harness (which connects to the ISO one) to bits.

You can probably best get that from a scrappy (Cinq should be identical, maybe Punto): just match the wire colours, solder and use heat shrink.

Are you 100% sure that's a separate earth????
It certainly doesn't look Black in the pic, & if it's an earth it should be Black.
(there should be a Black wire coming out of the back with the other wires for the connector).
Connecting any old wire to the body before you know what it is could end up in you losing the radio, or the whole car going up in flames... oh well your choice.

Yeah, its identified on the unit as an earth.

Thanks for all replies. Got to be honest, Im not half bad with car mechanicals, but electrics scares the you not what out of me!
