My daughter's seicento 2004 sporting lost all it's coolant a couple of days ago and it would appear that the water pump is goosed as is the head gasket (the compression differs across the cylinders).

So new water pump and new head gasket....

I've got a source for a gasket set inc valve stem oil seals inlet/ex etc; water pump; cam belt; head bolts; tensioner; alternator belt and oil filter plus I have large drums of 10/40 synthetic oil and anti freeze.......

So all's good. I've done heads etc before so no worries there but have now spent hours searching the internet for the info I need. I've got the cylinder head bolt torque settings (30Nm,+90,+90) but I cannot find a definitive answer to the ORDER of the bolts. I have this info: 8,6,2,5,10,7,3,1,4,9 which is unconfirmed but I don't know which bolt is 1,2,3 etc anyway.

Please can somebody confirm the bolt numbers and removal/installation orders...

Looking at the car from the front is it numbered

Has anyone had issues with synthetic oil? - I've got a 50L drum so it's cheaper than going and buying some semi (whether there is any benefit or not is immaterial).

Thanks David, that is the final part of the jigsaw that I need. Just have the job to do now. I'm sure it will not be too bad though.
 
Well I stripped her car down today and now have the head on the bench. Biggest issues I had were setting it at TDC and undoing the exhaust manifold bolts. I couldn't find images that matched the engine exactly and there were no obvious marks for TDC. It was only after removing the spark plugs and putting a screwdriver into the spark plug hole then moving it to TDC then checking on the flywheel thought the viewing hole that I made sure it was there THEN I realised where the actual mark was but only because I knew it was there! They really don't make the marks obvious do they. As for the exhaust manifold bolts the bottom ones were an absolute pig to get to!

Anyway the water pump seems ok so it just appears that the head gasket has gone:

Looking at the images you can see that there has been a breach of the head gasket on at least one cylinder.
 
The factory manual is in the Downloads section.

My guess, either the car developed a leak or the rad fan failed to come on, or the thermostat played up.

Still, block looks full of rust, needs a flushing agent.

Thanks, to be honest it's been running on plain old water for the past couple of weeks or so just because it is losing water. I will flush it all out but, yes, do need to find out why it overheated in the first place. The RAC thought it was due to the water pump failing (needed them to recover the car as it was 150 miles away) but looking at the water pump it appears to be ok. I haven't checked the fans but will check them and the thermostat prior to running it.

Thanks for the info re the factory manual, I will go and have a look now. That WILL be very helpful!
