I need to replace the broken plastic lower gearstick bush on my 2000 Seicento, and will need to remove the gear knob to pull it clear. Previous threads seem to point to destruction only :bang:. Anyone know how to do it?:slayer:

Wet box. To remove & refit the plastic balljoint / bush arrangement at the bottom of the gearstick I either have to remove the gear knob or the cranked leverfrom the bottom end. both of which feel like they don't want to budge.

Popped the cables off - easy. Plastic unit held in place by 3 bolts (not captive - so need to wedge a 10mm spanner on the nut and undo the bolt from the underside of the car). Gearstick and plastic holder then comes out easy enough, BUT - the apeture of the plastic bit (that the gearstick passes through) is smaller than the gear knob, and the other end of the gearstick is cranked 90 degrees and will not pass through the hole either.

I've got the gear shift unit completely out of the car. The only way to get the gear stick out is to remove the gear knob. There must be a way as loads of aftermarket gear knobs are available on ebay! Think it's time for a BFH!

I was about to reply but thankfully you worked it out for yourself. So many times I have seen people on here ruin perfectly good gearknobs by being told to cut them off with a hacksaw!
Easy enough job once knob is off.

Ian.

I been working on my custom stick last night. Had an idea for it for so long in my mind.

a have just sprayed wd40 on stick and than pull knob off the stick...

I am a bike guy too so I went for custom mtb one
