hi tried to change my shocks and springs yesterday but failed epicly!!!
got the front wheels off fine but when i tried to remove the 2 bolts that hold the shock to the hub/arm they were really badly rusted and seized, tried spraying (lots) of wd40 on them and they wouldnt budge!!! really frustrating as i really wanted to get this job done this weekend and cant afford to take it to a garage to do, any helpful tips guys??

gas torch? is that a good/safe way of doing it? how hot would i need to get the nuts?

plus would i be able to reuse the nuts after as i dont have spares...

The nuts are non reuseable anyway as there nylocks and should be replaced. For getting them off big breaker bar. Usually they are 18mm not a 19mm on the bolt side if they're really bad cut them off and put on new of both. Gas torch need to get them realty hot. Wd40 is not the best penetrant I prefer plus gas. Also where in uk are you just incase someone is local who is willing to lend a hand

ok thanks mate, do you know where i could pick up spares from then?

Ideally PlusGas and the like need to be applied for several days before attempting to remove the nuts. It doesn't work instantly as it needs time to penetrate through. I find going over with a wire brush before application helps a little but really time is your best friend in these situations.

Ian.

By the way, PoundWorld sell something called DP60 and I find it as good as any of the big name products. £1 for a 300ml spray can. Buy a couple and be generous.

as said, proper penertrating oil and not WD40 will help no end here. PlusGas or GT85 are both good. Wire brush the threads to clean them a bit. I have never had to use a big bar or breaker bar on these ones myself and i'm no body builder lol. Heat will help too but again i never had to use any myself on these bolts.

Whereabouts do you hail from, plenty of friendly members here that may lend a hand if they are close by.

+1 for plusgas, (y)

AND the wirebrush on the threads;)

of you've no access to gas, or in a dodgy confined space .., a disc in a grinder played across the accessible flats of the nut will soon get the temperature up,
then squirt plusgas back on as you try to unwind it..,
