Hi my red fiat cinq sporting won't go over 5000 revs, it just goes up to it and stops! I would have the foot buried and nothing, we have checked the plugs, their leads and the coil packs but nothing has worked. But yet apart from that she is perfect, idling perfect. Need help ASAP!!!!

My guess would be exhaust related, a partially collapsed cat can do it.

Are we talking stationary or rolling?

If stationary:

Check throttle butterfly fully opens.
Check throttle potentiometer
Check for resistor plugs, non-copper leads
Temporarily remove air filter
Check TDC sensor.
Cam timing?

Collapsed cat or exhaust is possible.

If rolling only, what tyres/wheels are you using? What gear (etc.).

A strange one, though.

Are you going loopy in your old age Apple?? Its 7200rpm the limiter on a sporting iirc

One possibility, of course, is that the rev counter is mis-reading. What's your velocity flat out in fifth?

It's not mid reading because you can feel it's holding back

It didnt sound right when i wrote it but stuck with it so I must be - but i am in semi retirement now i guess

Solved now!! Timing was out!! Now it's like a fiat, not a tank!
