so far there there hasnt been much progress beside the trip home on the recovery truck :/,coming down the slip road ,changing down gears because race car and boom,no selectable gears . engine off check stick all is fine,start engine,not going anywhere so diagnosis was clutch and thrust bearing,

already had another clutch to go on,new thrust bearing ordered,ribe bit set also on the way oh and discovered leaking water pump,well bearing was shot so no point putting coolant in and go way of the vw air cooled

since then water pump got fitted and timing ended up out,silly me didn't put marks on ,
so re timed,turned by hand,went to start and tensioner broke so it jumped resulted in bent inlet valves :/.

so weekends work is looking to be rebuild head and new cambelt and tensioner,got new valves to fit ,so collecting new tools i like having a full toolbox!

oh and my sexy wheels may get fitted this weekend if ic an get tyres swapped for favours.

soon be back on the road miss upsetting the local boy racers in my ickle cinq.

You don't put marks on to re-time a 16v, the correct way is to use the timing tool.

when i used tmiing tool after water pump it didnt want to know oddly, getting corrected and everything is locked etc as it should according to tools ready for new dvs head to go in

well bent a few valves new bits slapped on more to be done tomorrow in hope car will start

there has been many ups and downs since the last post,


in short new head and gasket fitted no more leaks hooray but today i encountered a new enemy of the 16v engine :/

so waiting on postman to bring a bits i need to stop oil jumping out everywhere,
plus side having reverse gear is bliss and i may be a tooth out on timing :/ doesnt sound as smooth as im use to with 16v

good news,been an update,
took the easy route as even after a new head it didnt run right still and leaked oil still from between places.

bought another known good running engine from a user on FF,had it delviered and fitted within the weekend on a friends drive,since then ive been able to drive it happily

but wait theres more,coming out in January ,already lined up a new owner and my shopping list has grown,

1.4 16v
6 speed gearbox
SS supersprint manifold,exhaust custom front to back,
upper brace modded to fit 16v engine,
fingers lower brace
polybush front end and fit ARB
single wiper conversion
1.6tb
punto sporting front brake upgrade to 257mm discs and alrger calipers
new bonnet yet to recieve a scoop

list goes on tbh.

last on my list is smaller profile tyres,anyone got favourite for 14" wheels?

If 5.5J, go 185/50/14 (Conti Sport, maybe).

If 6J, 195/45/14. I rate the Uniroyal Rainmasters, but there are Toyos, Yokos, and Falkens.

conti stopped making the sportcontact in 185/50r14 they are hard to find now but there is some stock out there still. The conti's were my preferred tyre and then yoko a539 - so been on yoko's for a while now (well not now i don't have a cento but upto just recently)

well looks like wheels options are changing new rear arches are required big time now,rust may be little too much,anyone goes to scrap a rear beam in alright nick tell me! i will be in need of one

well plans always change with me,but parts are being collected and more fun to be had,16v getting could clean and refresh of gaskets sensors etc and oil,,some nice poly bushed items to add,, saturday shall be day hopefully alot of it goes on the car
