Hi,
I posting here on behalf of a workmate.
She has a P plate Cinquecento that has recently started stalling when she brakes and idles really erratically. The engine managemnet light also flicks on and off randomly.
I know from vauxhalls that usually this would signify a Lamda fault and would log a code to the ECU... is it possible to code read the ECU on the Cinquecento?
If so how?
Any ideas what could cause these symptoms?
Cheers

Hi,
Sounds like and idle control valve problem, needs to be cleaned, that should sort out the idle and stalling problems.. :)

Thanks

Cheers for that,
Where abouts do I find the ICV on this engine?
Also do you know if I can code read this engine?

i had a simliar probelm, although my engine stall when i was sitting in traffic and not braking.

i got a engine diagnostic and because of which a new lamba, so yeah you can read error codes.

you might wanna try getting a new fuel filter and adding some injector cleaner to your petrol as this eased the problem more than the new lamba.

Hi,
Yeah code reading is possible, but people have had mixed results with the code reader finding the actual fault...
The ICV valve is on the side of the throttle body, its held in by two torx screws, will find you a picture later..

Thanks

My car did the same thing, stalling while braking, erratic idling from time to time, running at 1500rpm for the first 3-4 seconds after cold starting, or 500rpm after warm startirg, low revs hesitation.

These problems lead to one thing: Air leak at the throttle body.

Especially stalling while braking, means that MAP pipe and servo vacuum hose (which connect to the same place at the manifold), are the main suspects. In my case, when i pressed the brake pedal during idle, i could see the air/fuel meter flunctuate for a second and sometimes revs rised a bit. Servo hose is made of plastic and is not so flexible, so it might not be so air sealed after some years of running, check this first.

I solved the problem by replacing the servo vacuum hose (in fact I replaced the plastic hose with a durable rubber one, kept the non-return valve and servo connector). Brakes also became more responsive now.

I also connected the MAP sensor pipe to the back of the SPI, where the oil breather use to connect, so it gets a more "general" indication of the manifold pressure and less servo depended.

Ahh goody, this is the same prob i've had with mine recently. I will go and try the things you have said. Thanks!

Rep points are deserved me thinks.
